- He is doing well because of his work experience, not because of his academic papers. The MDIS degree has hardly any value-added. He did well in his career because of his willingness to roll-up his sleeves to work in Oil & Gas Industry. His company valued him because of his specialist diploma training with BCA for safety management. Without these factors, his Masters Degree will not get him a similar paying job elsewhere.

In a way, the MDIS article is misleading and contradict. If it's education is the reason behind the gentlemen's success, every secondary school student should go MDIS after O levels and get a Masters degree by 22 years old (assuming girl, don't need to serve NS). Even if they wanna do so, SOS recommends other institutions.

Private schools offer more shady types of degree and diplomas. Most private schools set their own exam questions and leak the questions to students. In this way, the questions can be difficult and they can get top universities, including Cambridge Examination Syndicate to validate, moderate or accredit them (ie, agree that the questions are difficult and meets their standards). The degrees will have their logs but they are not awarded by the university.

Can you name me a few ?

Like I said, it's a MDIS sponsored article. It's pure marketing and the target group is ITE graduates.

Remember it was reported that there is one PhD who was retrenched and could not get a similar job.He later drove taxi for daily survival. He even wrote a book on his taxi driving experience. Not sure if he later got a similar job as a researcher in Singapore or Overseas.

Look, if u venture into the idiocy of getting a PHD, u better pray real hard that u getting academia. Meaning a uni gives u a spot as a guest lecturer or researcher.

Otherwise u are truly fucked.

At least the Leeds Beckett degree is the same as awarded by university.

The better ones, do the same as above but offers final-year in the university so that graduates get the same degree awarded as on-campus.

The best are those don't set the exam papers for their students, eg. University of London external program (difficult), ACCA (difficult), Heriott Watt MBA (easy) etc.
I have known of some who passed ACCA Level 1 and 2 but got stuck at Level 3 (many times). Don't know want to continue or give up ?

can consider to switch.

1. You need work experience with a mentor to be CA or CPA.
2. CPA and CA recognizes Accounting-related degrees from commonwealth countries. Eg. if you grade from Accountancy in NTU, you don't need to get ACCA to be CA or CPA.
3. For your friend who is stuck at level 3, the easiest way out is to re-take 1-2 more times. Still cannot, use the recent year Level-1 & 2 grades to enter an accounting degree's final year from one of the private schools. Check with their course consultants to see who will take you in, then you go on to grade with a degree from them, BUT MAKE SURE it is acceptable to ICPAS or ISCA (i don't know who in charge now). Doing so, costs more.

He is just following the standard formula of Rat Race, study hard, get good grades, work hard , then save and stay poor forever.
