FAP's Strategy for GE2016: 3 Corner Fights

There is a reason why the 2 new generation honchos of the PAP, Chan Chun Sing and Tan Chuan Jin, are being put in Tanjong Pagar and Marine Parade respectively. It would be a lost of face to dissolve these GRCs or lose them. Tin Pei Ling is also reversing her image, while the fervour over Nicole Seah is cooling off. Honestly, not easy to win.

Interesting point you made about NS. I have heard others say the same thing too.

[h=2]Analysis: Why did Lee and Goh accept Chee’s
settlement offer?

As anyone remotely interested in Singapore politics knows by now, Mr Lee Kuan
Yew and ESM Goh Chok Tong have, together with the Attorney-General’s Chambers,
accepted Dr Chee Soon Juan’s offer to settle his debts to them for $30,000. When
Dr Chee pays off these debts, he will leave bankruptcy and be able to stand at
the next general election.

The burning question Singaporeans are dying to ask (but dare not for
lingering fear of being sued bankrupt) must be: why did Messrs Lee and Goh agree
to Dr Chee’s offer?

The first thing to note is the creditors did not have a legal obligation to
accept the offer. But accept they did, plainly and simply, with no conditions
attached and no counter-offer made. It would seem to most Singaporeans that Dr
Chee has scored a moral victory.

The second thing to note is the offer to settle was made by Dr Chee, not
Messrs Lee and Goh.

The PAP is presently waging a national charm offensive, not
a national conversation. The explicit national conversation is subservient to
the implicit national charm offensive. In other words, the national
conversation is but a means to the end of winning back disgruntled Singaporeans,
who are fed up with the government (Hokkien: tu lan cheng hu) for a host of
problems.

The PAP knows the tide is turning. At the 2011 general election, 82 out of 87
seats were contested, which at 94.3% was the highest proportion of contested
seats since independence; only Tanjong Pagar GRC was uncontested (and that was
due to a technical fault – the opposition team submitted their nomination papers
35 seconds late). It was the first time the opposition won a GRC, and the PAP
got its lowest percentage of votes ever, 60.14%.

It is easy to say Aljunied GRC fell because Mr Low Thia Kiang is an
opposition heavyweight. But bear in mind Aljunied had their own heavyweight, BG
George Yeo, who was a) popular, b) an office-holder, being the Minister for
Foreign Affairs, and c) an incumbent. If BG Yeo could be beaten, anyone could,
was the story of the election.

This explains why the PAP is desperately wooing voters with soft power. Tea
sessions at the Istana, the national conversation, settling Dr Chee’s debt and
releasing him from bankruptcy – all these are attempts by the PAP to
suffocate us with love and friend us to death.

Now comes the interesting part of our analysis: why use soft power at all,
why not just solve the nation’s problems? The answer is shockingly
simple: the PAP government has let things get so out of hand that they
cannot fix them.
Take for example property prices. Property has become
unaffordable for many Singaporeans, yet if the government were to engineer a
substantial lowering of prices, owners who bought high would be hopping
mad and our financial system could be in trouble.

Consider also the issue of foreigners in Singapore. If the government
does not stanch the flow of foreigners into Singapore, Singaporeans will be mad
(as they now are). But if they did, businesses which depend on foreign labour
will be mad and some MNCs may even threaten to pull out.

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t. The PAP government has
painted itself into a corner, and the paint does not dry.
Stuck between
a rock and a hard place, there is only one thing left they can do i.e.
psycho us into believing they are suddenly warm, fuzzy creatures who
care about and love Singaporeans. The reality is the PAP
have always and only been interested in themselves.

In the past, when the PAP were assured of victory at the polls, they could
not care less about Singaporeans and what we thought, but now their political
survival is at stake, they are suddenly very interested in Singaporeans and what
we think.

What do you think?

I predict PAP's natiowide votes % will drop to 50% in 2016 but win 100% seats.
Thanks to all the GONGKIAs shit stirrers who are jealous of WP's little "success". The names of these GONGKIAs include Goh Meng Seng, Cruxx, Nice-Gook, SKPonggol, etc
Lee and Goh clearly understands how GONG these GONGKIAs are and would be more than happy for Chee to spoil the show by diluting WP's votes.

Yes, my position is not much difference between the two. You are entitled to your opinion just as I am entitled to mine.

hello bro, one is a real firebrand party resisting forcefully the much despised and hated PAP. The other is a wayang party pretending to play opposition but cosying up to their much admired papzis. Trying to emulate them even!

Not much difference? Yes you are entitled to your skewed opinion. Mine is obvoiusly more correct.

I concur that the important thing to remember of this case is it was Dr Chee who offered, and not the PAP Mafiasos.

Is anything so straightforward in Spore? I reckon that there is a sting in the tail. Only time will tell.

Chee will beat WP anytime given in a 3 corner fight, but not PAP.

Bro, would appreciate that you showcase examples and rebut the examples of others, instead of just sweeping past with the same statements. Would show how much you respect the person you are talking to. Else, you can consider Goh Meng Seng's advice and not see or class everything in black and white.

bro tanWP, are you denying the SDP is a firebrand party? Do you not have eyes that you no see? ears which you no hear? feelings that you can't feel what they have done and suffered for the ppl of sinkieland?

Asking for examples? Do you need to be spoon fed? How to respect someone who does not open his eyes and ears? If you choose to have a closed mind, I sorry for you.

Is there anything significant about who offered first?

of course. they offered = gracious offer; he offered = they LPPL accept so as not to look ungracious................

All these talks of SDP fighting WP in 3CF in 2016 is premature and unnecessary. The probability is very low since SDP focus mainly in the west and WP in the east. The potential for 3CF is in Tanjong Pagar where RP and SDP have indicate their interests. As for WP, it with NSP and even SDA in the east.

Whenever one thinks of GMS, just think of Harban Singh and you would be able to understand why GMS exists.
