Dr. Vivien say floods not serious matter

The only thing the PAP govt has done is to flood themselves with a lot of our money.

The floods in the 60s were a lot worse before "man" stepped in to address the issue. The PAP has not eliminated flooding but they've reduced the severity considerably.

Kudos to the government for doing a good job.

Old enough to remember those floods :)
We didn't have "flash floods" back then. People had ample warning about rising water levels & had the oppurtunity to move their barang, barang to higher area.

Yes the "old" PAP reduced the severity of the floods, that's why many were caught by surprise by the "flash" floods now so common.

How often do we experience droughts here in the past decades? Once maybe or twice. While floods are almost every 6 months affair.

Anyway, the drought situation is seriously play up, considering we are only a whisker away from ferrying water from nearby countries through large containner ships if the situation arises.

He talks sense. I agree with him wholeheartedly.

The ponding that occurs in Singapore is nothing more than a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.

On the other hand, a prolonged drought could bring the country to its knees. Imagine not having enough water to keep the economy going. It would be a disaster.

how does vivians ass taste like u freakin ass lickr

this idiot talk what cock, Drought is never a problem in singapore due to geographical reason. Why throw in this smoke screen. chee bye chap cheng kia

I have lived through a prolonged period of water rationing in Singapore and that's when the population was only 1.2 million.

One can never tell what the weather will throw up.

Why is every endorsement of a govt policy or statement considered to be ass licking while every condemnation is heralded as enlightening, brave and intelligent.

It makes me wonder how tolerant the current opposition would be of alternative views if they ever gain power.

ok you win, i had forgotten about those days

I thought Newater and desalination was the answer to all problems with water shortages, droughts included? Would the whole of marina barrage dry up?
If so, open the gates, and let in seawater and Newater it.
Why all the worry about droughts?

You're right on, son. Flood is problem in Singapore, not drought. Singapore is in tropical monsoon region of above 2,000mm rainfall per year. If left unpopulated and undeveloped, Singapore would be 700sqm of rainforest. They're trying to play down flooding as once in 50 years, then calling it ponding. However, occasionally a few weeks without rainfall and they jump up and down happily calling it a drought. You know why? Drought is the magic word for raising water tarriff.

may i ask when was the last real drought in singapore? anyway we only pay 3 cents per gallon of water to malaysia and we have emergency newater, so no worries there.

Since Deboner is still not recover from his hangover this morning, I will take his place "Is the shade of skin on his balls whiter or darker than his face? Licker."

You have nominated yourself to be his lackey? For comparison of balls, look at yours first.

... If they (retailers) don't like ponding, they can move to higher ground.

The ponding caused no deaths and destroyed no vital infrastructure. The economy didn't grind to a halt. All it did was prevent starbucks from selling a few coffees. Big deal!

Well said. Unfortunately, some detractors think starbucks is more vital to them than long term supply of water for the entire population.

How about paying all the Orchard rd retailers for the damages done by the floodwaters? After that then we talked??

Paradoxically you are over-relying on the very government you think is uncaring. The retailers should simply go to the Insurance companies - not the government!

if spore is currently facing a drought problem, this keling snake will twist n turn his words by saying drought is a small matter and flood is more serious instead.

You are simply showing your shallowness of thinking i.e. ignorance. The very source of our supply water - Malaysia - is suffering from water shortages. You are unaware of that, or is your head in the sand? Go and read :

Wisdom comes with age and experience. It makes you think that some of these people here are born just yesterday!

They have never known the perennial floods from Newton Circus all the way to Sixth Avenue. Or waited for the emergency water trucks with two miserable pails or jerry cans to carry all the way up the stair cases. No stranger, this must be the Generation Z of Singaporeans who rely on their maids to carry their haversack!

I am asking the govt to pay for their incompetences, I'm not relying on them.

You go to insurances only if it is an act of God. This is an act of negligence by the PAP for not building proper drainage. Negligent parties are liable for damages.

Obviously you are the one born yesterday. There were no floods in Orchard Rd before. If wisdom comes from age and experience, you will be very dull indeed.

He was trying to say we needed the Marina Barrage. Because it was often claimed the Barrage would solve all our water problem but he dared not mention the feared structure.
