Does he not know that a flash flood can be extremely dangerous causing loss of life and property too.
How can these monkeys be Ministers.

<!-- CONTENT NEWS: start -->SINGAPORE - While Dr Vivian Balakrishnam commended the recommendations put forward by the expert panel working to ease the flooding situation, he said more should be done to guard against dry spells as well.
"A prolonged drought is something of a greater worry to me than a flash flood, which can be resolved over 15 minutes to half an hour," he said.

He talks sense. I agree with him wholeheartedly.

The ponding that occurs in Singapore is nothing more than a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.

On the other hand, a prolonged drought could bring the country to its knees. Imagine not having enough water to keep the economy going. It would be a disaster.

Droughts is nothing, what you want to drink? Coke, Evian or Perrier?

people can drink any, it's whether they choose to

You never have enough wisdoms of the PAP ministers! This thread starter fellow doesn't know what is a flood - or drought - until he experienced one in some parts of Australia.

He thinks probably thinks that Mount Faber is a Mountain in the Himalayas.

hi there

1. sheep cannot even handle one serious issue.
2. blahs of another impending matter.
3. as if some parts of sheepishland shall be flooded while other areas are dried up!
4. "cow head not replying horse mouth" - canto slang!

lianbeng quotes vv gu-niang, "a drought is a drought!":D

When a drought happens in Singapore, VV will refer to it as 'deponded'. Quite typical of the MIW to play down anything that may be deemed their fault. Too defensive, I say.

They should, instead of trying to redirect criticisms, put up a constructive plan.

A little sincerity goes a long way. Now which part of that don't they understand.

flood small matter? I suggest the PM of Netherlands to send a strong worded letter to protest.

drought - i thought we drinking our own pee? Ask those semi-conductor companies to run their wafer plants on pee too...anyways..no need too...come 2012 many will close and move out of Sinkie land if they have not already been doing so.

hi there

1. red, our scholar sheep may use his ponding waters to put out the drought mah!
2. erh! the same sheep may not be totally useless after all leh!

How about paying all the Orchard rd retailers for the damages done by the floodwaters? After that then we talked??

Who cares about those retailers. They don't rank highly in terms of importance. If they don't like ponding, they can move to higher ground.

The ponding caused no deaths and destroyed no vital infrastructure. The economy didn't grind to a halt. All it did was prevent starbucks from selling a few coffees. Big deal!

After buying water from Malaysia for decades, you do not need to be the highest paid ministers and politicans (by very far) in the world to know that shortage of water is one of the fundamental problems facing sillipore.

At one time this lack of water amongst other resources was one of the reasons for the stop at 2 policy.

Now for their own selfish reasons, the pappy open up the floodgates for hordes of low quality cheating pinoys, indian fts and prcs to pond the island.
They know and we all know this red dot cannot sustain so many people and yet they went ahead with it.

The man in the streeet will pay a heavy price for the pappy's mistake and I really hope the 60% (esp the hardcore 30% who voted for NS research scientist patrick tan's father) will live to regret their mistake and see their children and grandchildren suffer .

If Ministers in S'pore don't care, they should move to NZ where such things like earthquakes are also no big deal.

hi there

1. bro, you may not shocked.
2. if the same sheep blah that ponding is insignificant to some drought thing!
3. not his immediate biz too.

if spore is currently facing a drought problem, this keling snake will twist n turn his words by saying drought is a small matter and flood is more serious instead.

If I remember correctly the flood has caused the death of at least 1 person who fell into a longkang because they couldn't see through through water, the hazards below.

However it's caused lot$$ of property damage e.g. damage to cars, property values, lost of productivity,.. Many have speculated that the problem is man-made or rather PAP made. So it's not surprising they are still trying to skirt around the issue.

The floods in the 60s were a lot worse before "man" stepped in to address the issue. The PAP has not eliminated flooding but they've reduced the severity considerably.

Kudos to the government for doing a good job.
