The ponding that occurs in Singapore is nothing more than a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.

On the other hand, a prolonged drought could bring the country to its knees. Imagine not having enough water to keep the economy going. It would be a disaster.

Who cares about those retailers. They don't rank highly in terms of importance. If they don't like ponding, they can move to higher ground.

The ponding caused no deaths and destroyed no vital infrastructure. The economy didn't grind to a halt. All it did was prevent starbucks from selling a few coffees. Big deal!

After buying water from Malaysia for decades, you do not need to be the highest paid ministers and politicans (by very far) in the world to know that shortage of water is one of the fundamental problems facing sillipore.

At one time this lack of water amongst other resources was one of the reasons for the stop at 2 policy.

Now for their own selfish reasons, the pappy open up the floodgates for hordes of low quality cheating pinoys, indian fts and prcs to pond the island.
They know and we all know this red dot cannot sustain so many people and yet they went ahead with it.

The man in the streeet will pay a heavy price for the pappy's mistake and I really hope the 60% (esp the hardcore 30% who voted for NS research scientist patrick tan's father) will live to regret their mistake and see their children and grandchildren suffer .

If I remember correctly the flood has caused the death of at least 1 person who fell into a longkang because they couldn't see through through water, the hazards below.

However it's caused lot$$ of property damage e.g. damage to cars, property values, lost of productivity,.. Many have speculated that the problem is man-made or rather PAP made. So it's not surprising they are still trying to skirt around the issue.

The floods in the 60s were a lot worse before "man" stepped in to address the issue. The PAP has not eliminated flooding but they've reduced the severity considerably.

Kudos to the government for doing a good job.
