I won't surprised if the rest are probably hole up together debating whether to give themselves up or run road. Perhaps they are also awaiting to see if the charges on the 4 will be dropped to a lesser charge before making their decision.

Frankiestine: More crucially, we should also be asking who's harbouring these 5 wanted criminals. They must be staying somewhere unless they are hiding in the forested areas of S'pore. Being non-commando and/or non-terrorist trained, not likely they are able to survive a week.

They may still be together or split up in groups. Their meals? Order fast food the past week? I doubt they anticipated having to be on the run and carried huge sums of money on them. So, who's providing financial assistance the past week?

Let's work out the sums involved. At least $150 per day is needed to sustain the 5. $30 per head is not much. Factor in 3 meals a day, snacks, cigs etc.
Today is the 7th day so $150X7=$1050. Not a small sum. And whoever is supporting the 5 is risking being arrested. Same for the people harbouring the 5.

Not likely. Police will monitor the parents or grandparents home first. The wanted chaps can't be that naive and nobody who acts gung ho wants to be seen going back to the arms of daddy and mummy or worse, ah kong and ah ma. They are machoman, remember?

Those caught may or may not have identified their friends. Not important though I am 90% sure they would have broken down during interrogation. Some may want to be prosecution witness to minimise their sentences later.

The police can check the handphone records of those arrested. Check their messages in and out, calls in, calls out etc hours before and after the killing and you have the answers. These kids can't be that savvy or experienced that they covered all their tracks.

With the list of handphone numbers, call them all. Those not involved will still retain their handphone numbers. Those involved? Trust me, they will throw away their SIM cards and get a new number only a small circle will know. That's the behavior of criminals, the less experienced ones, I must add.

My guess is that Darren's friends could be charged for unlawful assembly. Their best bet, though unlikely, is to be given a warning in lieu of court prosecution.

Unlawful assembly is gathering for a common unlawful intention but without violence. Rioting overrides that, whether you "won" or "lost" the fight in the riot. I'm surprised that police hasn't rounded up all of them. In the past, we arrested everybody we knew involved first. Admittedly, that was in the past and I may be outdated with current police procedure.

My apologies. Unlawful assembly after lawyers make representation. This is their best bet instead of rioting. They usually reduce rioting with dangerous weapons to rioting then unlawful assembly.

Here is where defence counsel, if not doing it pro bono, will convince family of the accused that case very very jialak sure hang etc. They will then say they must use their blain keng kau liao etc. All this show is to ensure being able to charge more in legal fees.

I have friends who went through that ordeal. Almost all these chaps who slash and stab aren't the educated type. So, with a legally trained mind, it is not difficult for lawyers to con the accused and their family. Being ignorant and desperado, they will listen to their lawyer and the lawyer's word will be taken as gospel truth. A real pity.

But all too often we have seen such charges dropped to a "less serious" one such as manslaughter or culpable homicide or worst just rioting which the punishment would be a mere tap on the hand for the perpetrators..

This is alarming - a 16 yr old managed to avoid detection and arrest from our police since day of incident. If 16 year old can do this, perhaps the police spokesman should come out with a police statement explaining why they were outwitted so easily.

Me and my buddies outwitted the police many times as teenagers from a gangster families. So much so amused that we went to apply to join the police force when NS enlistment notices came. 8 of us went to the police academy recruitment office to bullshit about law and order in the interviews, 3 of us (including me) got in. We laughed our heads out.
