Chee Hean has replied to Low Thia Khiang’s queries on the recent spate of corruption involving senior govt officials, the reason for failure is never about the system but about the slack in maintaining and upholding the system. There seems to be an inability to follow standard and approved procedures or deliberately violated to abet corruption, or simply negligent on the part of the officers or their superiors. The flaws seemed to be the ease in circumventing a robust and tight systems of checks and controls. Why?

The causes of all the corruption cases are nothing sophisticated and bizarre that cannot be prevented. What could be the main contributor to the rise in corruption is lack of accountability. No heads will roll or at most a slap on the wrist would be considered the gravest punishment. How then could discipline and abiding to proper procedures be enforced when there is no fear factor? How would anyone not be tempted to take risk when the consequences are as good as no consequences?

They have to commit hara kiri to rid the system of such deadwood & termites. We are talking about money that belongs to the government, & where do the government gets that money from? Making such a blunder, where is the INTEGRITY, where such people are simply moved to another position in the "food chain". Such drastic mistakes, the person must be publicly SACKED & all benefits removed immediately. We have one, still hanging around..'playing golf', where we, once, we at the mercy of terrorists.

Where is that INTEGRITY that you know who profess?? which is more serious...lapses in Hawker Centre cleaning or lapses in judgment & governance that money of a large scale is siphoned &/or security is breached??

These are the things they have to FIX..make grave mistakes....shame & sack ASAP!..that is INTEGRITY!!.

PAP's thesis that high salaries - highest in the world for public sector - has fallen down like the statute of Sadamn Hussein. We need truly people who truly care about the country to serve, not those captivated by the highest salaries.

Lots of these scholars stay on because it is a cushy job ...millions in compensation with no performance required ...just toe the line and please your minister ...and you are guaranteed a job for life.

We need experienced bureaucrats, not book worms. Time to revamp the scholar system and reduce salaries by 70 percent!

Until ministers lead by example, with integrity and honour, and know the meaning of shame when shit hits the fan, they can have all the rules and regulations - expect to see more of the same.

a yesman and paplickercarrierrimmersuckerman will never get the chop.

Too many people have a vested interest in turning a blind eye to all the abuses. It will take new people e.g. the opposition to clean up the place.
