It is bad because it gives political opponents (i.e. the PAP) the ammo to attack them.

If the rumors are true, the PAP will present themselves as champions of marital fidelity/family cohesion/Asian values/sexual purity and start a shaming campaign. Also, there is a real stigma of fucking another married person. You'll be accused of breaking up someone's family.
