Forummer Wuqi who runs the record breaking thread that has 640K views only has 301 rep points and power of 4. He not only motivates people, he provides suggestions on local laws, habits, customs and even direction to get legal help. The Rep thing is not working as it should. People are begging for points and those who want to be popular for the sake of being popular will reciprocate. One clown has 1,200 points and he does not even need it. What then was the purpose for asking for points? I am sure he too is wondering why he was asking for points.

It does reflect society at large. Interesting isn't it.

That is why we can't keep quiet. Folks like cooleo never bothered and and did provide good contributions compared to many others. But the way he did Raider and PAPsmearer really got my goat. It was bullying pure and simple. I know that PAPsmearer was not well liked for his confrontational style but he does contribute and he does not abuse the system.

Sam is in his 40s, not 60s.

Wuqi has an unusually low number of points. He is not being appreciated enough and don't think that he doesn't feel it.
For my own reasons, I will probably never live in JB, but his posts are actually very good and encouraging to people.
He answers as many questions as he can, and tries to be as polite as possible.
Before the forum crashed, I added his pts and didn't ask for return. When the forum crashed, I didn't realise those pts were lost, but he told me.
So I added his pts again.

If we don't appreciate forummers like this, we may lose them sooner rather than later.

Wuqi was active in the forum but helping answer the numerous questions has taken alot of his time. We all have to recognise how to contribute meaningfully. To be a good mdoerator, one has to active manage good threads so that it does not disappear or getting buried with the many mundane stuff that come very quickly. I was struggling with Wuqi's thread as I realised it came alive during weekends. So I made it a sticky.

I have no interest in JB but I can see the dire need for a release value for cooped up Singaporeans. I also visited an Angmo working in Singapore who built a Balinese paradise in JB. It was beautiful. You can't build shit like that in Singapore. I am sure staying Malaysia, you would realise that better than others.

Do read the thread from time to time. Very interesting and varied group dynamics.

I'll like to explain what I do because recently, I added your pts and u added me back even though I didn't ask.
Sometimes, I add a forummer's points because of some help or interesting information they have provided or in your case, if their recent posts have been good. Don't ask for return.
Other times, I add a forummer's points because of a good post or thread and I ask to be added back because I have contributed to that thread too. Sometimes, they return, sometimes not.

For those who add my points, and want return, I would prefer that they ask and have contributed good posts, but most of the time, I give them back anyway.
Except for the first one and a half years, where I didn't even know the log existed. :o

The reppoints system are like water coolers in a mall. Not that useful, but sometimes we drink from them because they are there.
It can be abused but it can also be used to establish rapport and encourage helpful forummers and good contributions.

Yes, you gave me rep points when I was new and I appreciated that. You, KNNCBB and some others were doing the right thing to encourage new members to make efforts to contribute more.

One thing that might escape many here why new members making good contributions but not being given points, is that many senior members are more interested in receiving than giving. Before giving points they will check whether the member they want to give can return the same points they give. Say I am a member that can give 4 points and I get from that member 1 point, then I am reluctant to give mine. There are many new members I note that has very few points despite making numerous posts that has merit. I frequent the Political Forum and there are many of them there.

Senior members I hope will help these guys to chug along, as it is an encouragement and make them feel there efforts are not wasted.

Wuqi rarely venture out of his JB thread and most of those who're attracted to that thread don't bother with points too, just information and discussion. The other and the top one-thread wonder is DannyBoyBoy who always stick to his own 今生我最爱的人 thread only. He received little points too. Postnew of course is the resident silent photo-journalist. He amassed lots of points for his pics over many topics without needing to say much.
