SINGAPORE - A couple who had complained about "smelly" undercooked fish being served at their wedding banquet and poor service have apologised to the hotel, reported the Straits Times.

The Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay had called the police last Friday to resolve the dispute after the newlyweds refused to pay the remaining $8,000 of their $18,000 banquet.

The dinner was held at the hotel's Dragon Phoenix restaurant.

They eventually paid up after police arrived.

The couple had also complained that banquet staff removed the dishes just five minutes after it was served, regardless of whether the food has been consumed.

And when a guest requested for brandy, she was served water instead. They also claimed there were insufficient glasses for guests to toast them during the ceremony.

Addressing these complaints, the hotel's general manager, Mr Kevin Bossino, said several of the couple's accusations were "unfounded".

He told the Straits Times that the red grouper for the dinner were brought in live before they were killed and cooked for the dinner.

The comment about the "smelly fish" had come from the bride's aunt, but she had declined an offer to replace the fish, and said it was a just casual comment.

He added that the interval between each course was about 15 minutes, and the dinner was on schedule.

Mr Bossino said checks revealed there were enough glasses on every table for the toast, and although a server had misheard a request for "brandy" as "water", the mistake was rectified.

But he admitted that the matter should have been "settled amicably", instead of getting the police involved, which he attributed to a "spur of the moment" decision.

The couple has emailed an apology to the hotel, and told the Straits Times that the matter was "blown out of proportion".

In a statement, they pointed to a miscommunication from the bride's aunt, who they claimed exaggerated many things.

They said the hotel has also accepted their apology.

Now then admit defeat, already spoiled their own wedding dinner and reputation.

hahaha pichar lobang.
think can scam $18,000 banquet to a $18 banquet. Nice try.:D

Like Scroobal, these type of people need to get sued before they will show their balless nature. I bet the hotel was about to take legal action against these clowns.

Probably pichar lobang only when the hotel tell them "Sorry about your unhappy experience. BTW, we have CCTV installed in all corners of the ballroom. Do you want to take a look at the footage?"

Like I said in the other related thread, you either pay or sue in such a circumstance. If you don't pay, you must sue. You cannot say don't pay and wait for hotel to sue, that's sure financial suicide. If you have no legal and financial muscles, the first letter of demand will already scare the hell out most people unfamilar with law. If you're afraid of hotel corporate power and don't dare to don't pay, you must pay. Making a scene and then pay is even worse. Fortunately for me, they're not my friends. Unfortunately for them, I'm not their friend. Otherwise, I'd advise them the adage 一不做,二不休。If they're really so dissastified and furious, then do it, sue first thing next morning. If it's somewhere in between, make a soft complain behind the scene and get a few complimentary tables of dinner at another time.

That is poor advice. As someone pointed out correctly - if the renovation contractor screws up your renovation, you must be a fool to pay up fully. The same principles apply. No need to sue. They have to rectify or seek some sort of settlement. Why bother to sue.

These things are common sense and the law actually protects you. Patrolmen who attend such cases make such suggestion to pay or sue to avoid hanging around. Its immoral to provide such advice.

Seems to me the groom is going to have trouble with the bride's aunt. This is a case of deep resentment toward the marriage itself, nothing to do with food or service.

Scroobal, if someone sue you for naming them in sex scandals? However, you did not base your posting on concrete evidence, but merely hearsay. Will they be successful? I am sure you know the answer. :D

Bride and groom should blame themselves for being daft, by not reviewing the reliability of the source and evidence, before reacting.

As someone else has pointed out earlier, he wouldn't trust and couldn't be expected to trust the the replacement dish for the bad dish or job or bad job. Sue for compensation and find another restaurant or contractor whichever's the case. Of course, it can be settled out of court, if settlement terms are acceptable. If you dare not to sue, just swallow it, pay up and forget it.

Perhaps the bride's aunt is single. :D

hi there

1. i had been some master-of-ceremonies to many friends' wedding receptions & dinners.
2. honest, it is always such auntie specimen that spoils the entire ambience and joyous mood.
3. one thing: arriving very late and slowly stroll into the ballroom, literally speaking to tables.
4. next: complain this complain that!
5. lastly: cry to get maximum attention or speaking at the top of her voice.

Well, i'm sure the next group of ppl will be happy..

The divorce lawyers this couple would need...

And when these lawyers don't get paid their supposed due fees..

They'll sue..

For sure!:D

Aunties are old. What u expect? If they were not complaining about the weather, they will be complaining about rheumatism. That's why in some cultures, old people are left at the mountains to die.

hi streets....this kind of behaviour more or less describes tony or Mr karate 666.

Morality is a foreign concept to Ramseth the Great. :D
