http://www.airforcemag.com/DWG/Documents/2013/July 2013/072913Carlisle.pdfGeneral Carlisle: I talked to their CDF [Chief of Defense Force], Chee Meng. I was just in Singapore. Singapore’s decided to buy the B model, the VSTOL variant to begin with. But I don’t know where they’re at in putting it into their budget. I know that’s a decision that’s been made and that’s why they’re part of the program, but I don’t know where they’re at in putting that in the budget.
US General Carlisle reveals to the Defense writers group. Japan and S. Korea are likely to give F35 a miss due to high cost.
As a Singaporean, it sickens me to hear this. Here we are struggling with inadequate transport and medical care and our CDF tells the Americans he wants to buy this controversial platform. All our elites should be sacked and removed for acting against the interests of the people for spending billions on something we don't need as Singaporeans struggle everyday hardly able to cope with the cost of living. This is so irresponsible.
My greatest disappointment is with Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen for not being able to stop these spendthrift hawks in his ministry. This is precisely the wrong decision to make as our country is at crossroads. How many schools and hospitals can this money build?
If they go ahead with this purchase, it is really time to throw every one of them ouT for their epic failure to realise the citizens have had enough of their lopsided thinking.
On the one hand they can debate for hours in parliament over paltry amounts of aid for the most needy Singaporeans ...and yet overspend on defense without a thought. This is simply irresponsible and Ng Eng Hen will be held accountable....this feller was a doctor, what excuse does he have not to understand the urgent need to spend on healthcare and relieve Singaporeans from very high burden of out of pocket spending when they are sick.
We cannot trust these elites to make the right tradeoffs in backrooms and in small circles to decide on these serious matters. Every billion they spend on these planes ...the same billion can be used to imrpove the lives of Singaporeans. How can we let out of touch elites decide on our lives? We cannot trust them to do what is right!!!
