Dear all,

I have just applied a job as a debt collector and I have secured the job. However the company told me that the ministry of law will have to approve before I can start work.

My question is will I be able to get the job? I went to prison in the year 2013 and I did not declare that when Im being interviewed.the crime I went in for is not related to money matters eg not scamming or cheating cases.im also on DRS under the govt scheme to repay back my previous outstanding loans.

Thanks for reading and for any information that may come after this.

Leongsam thanks for the short info. Based on that itself I might have a chance.

Chokboon I'm not sure why you will assume that I am a thug or looking to get tough on people. Not all debt collectors work that way.

Beside, I am not here to get blamed at or be flamed at. I am currently jobless and this position came along so I'm really hoping I can get the job. Thanks for your kind understanding as well.

Did you fill up an application form where they asked "were you convicted of etc etc" or anything of that sort?

No glockman. No application forms was filled up. Just went for a face interview and I got the job. But they did ask if I have any criminal records and I froze and said no. Cause I am desperately needing a job at this moment.

By saying "NO" to the criminal record question will come back to bite you eventually one day. Better set the record straight from the start.

I am surprised there was no application form. Better that you come clean with them and explain your situation. Min of Law will probably do a background check. You write good English, so I am guessing you had a good education. All the best to you!

Maybe u wanna avoid jobs that are money sensitive just to avoid background checks....go for jobs like part time waiters at weddings, they probably don't give a shyt about things like that...just try to hide the obvious stuff like gang tattoos and stitches and burn marks from iron branding.

When you need to migrate, or apply for PR of another country, you will have difficulty as you will not be able to get a CNCC.

But anyway, all the best. 能改就是好汉
