She should leave him. It just shows that he thinks that his ex is better than her. It's really that simple. Every relationship is a comparison and if his current girlfriend is way much better, he would not think a hoot about his ex.

How strong are they into the relationship? Is she jealous of it or what? What is your friend's issue?

Is that ex a recent break up? If so, give him time. Your friend will need to work harder and understand him better.

Besides the phone there are many other places where such pictures could be kept.
