It's probably because it's not covered in the 10 year series
Today, the Press and the govt is playing up the security line, and howling for the vandals' blood.
But truth be told, these vandals are exactly the mavericks that dull, boring stiff, staid and conformist Singapore needs!
Instead of punishing them, we should give them a medal and reward them - for exposing the lapses in our security fences like white hat hackers do in the IT sector! The more Ah Seng says there is a serious breach of security, the bigger the medal and the higher the honour should go to these guys who have the spurs, the gumption and the guts to thumb the noses at our apparent invincibility.
The people who should be punished are:
1. Ministers involved for Home Affairs, Transport - who shld resign in disgrace!
2. The CEO of SMRT
3. The SMRT shld also be investigated for trying to cover up and those responsible sacked.
4. Any others that forum bros here can justify with good causes!

I agree with you totally. The only crime that this bugger commits is to shame the authority of their over-boasted security measures which cannot even withstand a simple wire cutter. It is a shame that people don't realise that it is the face and ego that matters.
We should be thankful that such security loopholes under the boastful authorities are exposed by this Swiss who have done harmless but something refreshing to the train. Something drastic might have happened if such potential loopholes are just kept under "complacency" carpet.

According to the gentle touch in ST saying that AssMRT only disclose the vandalism after Youtube Video was put up goes to show that they did not report to the police immediately. Are they trying to hide PAP complacency for as long as Youtube video did not show up?
AssMRT spokesman said when they noticed the graffiti, it was IMMEDIATELY rported to the police. Such WAYANG papaya style is an insult to Singaporeans intelligent. What if this is a terrorist ploy and Singaporeans are still riding on a dangerous train while AssMRT kept quiet or prefer to sleep on the matter putting everyone at risk!! That is a high risk of having a monopolistic transport system that pose danger to every single life here. PAP must be voted out to ensure safety of citizens are not compromised by arrogant management.

The authority should treat this incident as a "stress-test".
The ang moh should be rewarded for conducting the stress-test as he has provided the authorities with an golden opportunity to tighten up the security measures.

A SWISS national who works here was charged in a criminal mentions court on Saturday with trespass and the vandalism of an MRT train at the Changi depot. Oliver Fricker, 32, a business consultant, was charged with cutting the fence of the depot and damaging public property. He was also charged with vandalism by spraying paint on two carriages of an SMRT train, and trespass by entering the Changi depot without permission. Also named on the charge sheet was British citizen Lloyd Dane Alexander.
It is not known if he is still in Singapore and the police are still investigating. Despite the barriers, including fences topped with barbed wire, the duo is believed to have cut through the fence of the depot, along Xilin Avenue. Once inside the depot, they spray-painted graffiti on one side of a train. The graffiti had the signature 'McKoy Banos', believed to be that of two persons who have vandalised trains elsewhere. The train later went into service for some time, in full view of commuters.The incident was reported to the police on May 19. Fricker was arrested about a week later.

The ang moh should be punished as well, otherwise others will not be deterred to start riding rough shod over the citizens and the property of SG.
But I fully agree that there are others in powerful positions who have lots to answer for due to the lax security. And if they are punished, so be it.

THE tale of the security breach at an MRT depot here took several twists yesterday: Police were told of it only two days after it occurred, and the Swiss national who left his mark on a train might not have been working alone.
In a statement last night, police said the breach took place on the night of May 16 or early the next morning.
It added that police were informed only on May 19, at 7.15pm.
The Straits Times reported yesterday that a YouTube video of the incident was posted online on May 18.
That timeline of events meant the graffiti on the train, and the breach, went unnoticed for close to 48 hours.
In its statement yesterday, police said the 33-year-old Swiss national who was arrested on May 25 will be hauled to court today to face charges of vandalism and trespass.
It did not say why there was a time lapse between the breach and the police report.
Train operator SMRT was just as mum about what happened at its depot, which is surrounded by a chain-linked fence topped with barbed wire.
However, in a statement, it said: 'SMRT reported the breach to the police immediately when it was discovered.'
Replying to queries, its head of security, Mr Choy Kin Chong, would say only that more security staff had been deployed to increase patrols at its depots. It was also working with the authorities to install more surveillance and detection systems at the perimeters, he added.
Meanwhile, The Straits Times understands that a Briton might also have been involved in spray-painting the graffiti on the train. However, he might have left the country already.
News of the breach, reported in The Straits Times yesterday, has alarmed politicians and members of the public, who called for a review of security measures surrounding Singapore's public transport system.
SMRT has three other depots in Bishan, Ulu Pandan and Kim Chuan.
The other train operator, SBS Transit, has a train depot in Sengkang.
An ST check of SMRT's Changi depot, sitting opposite the Singapore Expo, showed two sections of fence that seemed to have been tampered with, along Xilin Avenue and Laguna Golf Green.
It now appears that the train had pulled out of the depot and ran for two days in full view of commuters.
The spray-painted graffiti bore the signature 'McKoy Banos', that of two 'artists' who have left their mark on trains around the world.
Banos, whose real identity is unknown, is notorious among graffiti enthusiasts for his designs and endorsement of Ironlak, a brand of spray paint. Believed to be a Briton, he also uses signature colours for his graffiti. A check of a website where his graffiti is displayed showed that they matched those found on the Singapore MRT train.
Yesterday, Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) chairmen urged SMRT to give a full account of how the breach happened.
GPC chairman for Home Affairs and Law, Mr Alvin Yeo, said: 'MRT trains are potential soft targets. I dare say that the suspects probably did it in the spirit of fun and adventure and not for something more sinister.
'But this could have been something more harmful than just graffiti.'
Agreeing, GPC chairman for Transport, Dr Lim Wee Kiak, referred to the ST report that the vandals would have to be at the depot for at least 20 minutes to do their paint job.
'They could have tampered with the train's brakes, taken ball-bearings out and compromised the safety of the train without anyone knowing,' he said.
He described the breach as a 'wake-up call'. It was an opportunity, he said, to review the security procedures for 'not only trains, but also other public transport like our buses'.
Mr Tan Chong Kuan, 46, a security expert with knowledge of the transport field, noted that while attention has been paid to securing train stations and trains on the move, 'the source of the threat can actually come from the depot itself'.
Mr Tan, who has 20 years' experience in security, asked: 'What if terrorists had entered the depot to plant a bomb inside the train or on its undercarriage, and they time it to explode, say, at 7.30am, when the train is packed?'
A spokesman for the Swiss embassy said yesterday that it was providing consular help to the Swiss citizen. He added that Swiss nationals living or vacationing in Singapore are subject to the laws and rules here.
If convicted of vandalism, the Swiss national faces a maximum punishment of up to three years' jail or fine of up to $2,000 and caning of no less than three strokes and up to eight strokes.
For trespassing into a protected place, he faces a maximum fine of $1,000 and two years' jail.

The MRT graffiti saga which rocked the entire nation took another twist yesterday when it was revealed that SMRT took more than 48 hours to lodge a police report.
A Swiss FT was hauled up to Court yesterday for trepassing into a MRT depot at Changi and vandalizing one of the trains by spraying graffiti on one side of the carriage.
It also transpired that he had an accomplice with him Briton McKoy Banos who has since left Singapore.
The security breach allegedly took place on 16 May 2010, but a police report was made only on 19 May 2010 which contradicts an official statement by SMRT that it “reported the breach to the police immediately when it was discovered.”
When queried by the Straits Times, SMRT Head of Security Mr Choy Kin Chong declined to comment on the time lapse, saying that “more security staff had been deployed to increase patrol at its depots.”
Singapore’s biggest security lapse since the dramatic escape of famed terrorist Mas Selamat Kasteri two years ago drew widespread concerns from both law-makers and Singaporeans who wondered what the consequences might be had the vandals been terrorists instead.
GPC chairman for Home Affairs and Law, Mr Alvin Yeo was quick to jump to the defence of the Swiss FT:
“MRT trains are potential soft targets. I dare say that the suspects probably did it in the spirit of fun and adventure and not for something more sinister. But this could have been something more harmful than just graffiti,” he was quoted as saying in the Straits Times.
Netizens were equally flabbergasted at how SMRT could allow the security breach to go unnoticed for so long.
Eddie Chin commented:
“This is a real security concern. If someone can sneak into an MRT depot and spend a sizeable amount of time spraying the graffiti, he would have enough time to plant bombs on many different trains. I wonder what our Minister for Home Affairs going to say about this, that he’s doing a harmless prank so it’s ok?”
Salihin added:
“Worse of all is that SMRT actually deployed the vandalized train with the huge graffiti. Let’s not ask how they actually secure their depots when their staff cant even notice a huge graffiti on their train.”
There are no immediate comments from the Home Affairs Ministry or its Minister Wong Kan Seng yet.
Maybe they are keeping a distance as far as possible from the incident out of fears of re-igniting Singaporeans’ memories of Mas Selamat.

Spoon fed culture or skeleton staff?
If you compare to Bangkok where there's always a security guy on each platform & many staff around the stations to asist passengers.
In Spore, who knows if the camera's are working or anyone is watching. Personnel usually too busy doing their thing in their booths.
You usually only see the cleaners patrolling the station
