This works like a debit card.......many people used credit card for precisiely that..to buy on credit. So unless this offers credit terms.......the credit card is here to stay

They are called payment systems. This is not new. The popular ones are based on mobile phone or Internet as the device to send and receive payments. PayPal is the largest. Dwolla is a variant of Paypal but also accepts certain tokens and not just currency.
The most successful penetration of a payment system in recent history is MPesa in Kenya launched by Safari.com part owned by Vodaphone where the mobile banking payment platform was cater by the latter. If you been to Kenya, MPesa is everywhere and has overtaken banking and ATMs for small and medium value transaction.
A number of banks around the world have already launched mobile banking payment systems. Here is a scenarios how such a system will work. You agree to buy dinner for for your idol Teflon and during the course of the meal Teflon's conscience wakes up and he wants to pay his share but no even cash. After you pay the bill, Teflon uses his Nokia to get to the app and initiates a payment to you by keeping in the amount and your phone number. Your phone will then beep to acknowledge incoming funds. The next day, you can take out the funds at an ATM or an authorised money changer by presenting the code that comes with fund transfer.
