What are they doing in Singapore if they don't understand English?
NO worry...still accepted by our gahment with open arms, if not red carpet and many fribees...Damn it
What are they doing in Singapore if they don't understand English?
Any Sinkie who is concerned about the future of our Sinkie kids should disseminate the post by xingguy all over Sinkapore's internet forums, especially NUS, NTU, junior colleges, secondary schools' forums.Really ridiculous to sponsor foreigners to that extent while local students who are poor and cannot afford tuition - in any subject - are just left to their own devices..
Did you know that Pinky's government is trying to establish networks/connections with PRC officials? Some of these students may be offsprings of provincial- or county-level officials who are too poor to send the former to the UK or US.And if so, than really, the question becomes if their english is not good enough, how can they even get a scholarship? A scholarship is an academic based achievement, and if they cannot achieve a passable english level, than why do they get one.
A little bird tells me there is a world of difference between the Engrish language subject learned at school by native Sinkie students and "Academic Engrish as ESL/EFL". Our MOE teachers aren't trained to teach "Academic Engrish for EFL students".Why is MOE tendering this out, when they have thousands of teachers, and I am sure that many of them can teach a "bridging english" course?
Ever heard of a S$2 company set up by AIM?Its not like this kind of education service is totally alien to the MOE. SOmeone should check into this X-Press Training Services. I never heard of them before. Are they owned by a relative of someone in the MOE?
IA retired teacher woefully related to me that the Min of Edun's recent move to rotate school principals every four years, has some weird consequences. When a new principal is posted to a school he/she will tinker with the existing system to show Hqrs that they are on the ball and they are calibre stuff. Probably Anderson Sec School squandering $38k of tax payers y is an example.
They may not be trained to teach academic Engrish for EFL students. Even CELTA and DELTA-qualified instructors need to be trained to teach academic Engrish.(i) Are ASS teachers incompetent to teach?
If NIE-trained teachers have not been certified to teach academic Engrish to EFL students, then yes, they are incompetent.(ii) Are external teachers more competent than NIE-trained teachers?
See my answer to question (ii)(iii) Are the external teachers from private schools NIE-trained?
Are you referring to those black-and-white pre-qualifications published by MOE? There are hidden criteria too, one of which is how well connected the potential student is to PRC officials.(iv) What is the pre-qualification required by MOE for the foreign student to be eligible for enrollment in a government school?
No, if I remember it well, some well-known websites administered by the opposition have discussed it.(v) Is this the first time that such outsourcing has been done by a government school?

Not only are locals not given help, they are deprived of places by these foreigners who cannot even speak English.
I have seen many foreign students with very poor command of the English language being given places in Express Course only to get 20% in exams and drop down to Normal Courses later on-thus depriving a local of his/her place in Express.
These English courses/bridging courses are also conducted for PRC's students admitted on scholarships to Polytechnics while locals have to fight tooth and nail to get admitted to the better courses.
Try talking to some of these PRC "scholars' and they could hardly speak a sentence in simply English.
The pappy makes lots of noises including taking out prime time TV adverts to boast about the so called Pioneer generation package whilst sneakily gives huge amounts in aids to foreigners who has done nothing for the country .
The WP should ask in parliament how much the PAP spent on such aids to foreigners since LHL becomes PM and highlight these disgusting facts in every election.
The oppo parties could roar about these disgusting facts at every GE but still, there might 60% sinkies who were deaf and blind. It might take years to recover from deafness or blindness to see the real damages done to this country.

question, how does TRS know the students are sponsored and not foreign paying students
Also is TRS aware that foreigners pay $650 a month to attend SG public schools? 2.9K is easily made back within the first few months
Anderson Secondary School is a government school. The teaching staff there are all trained and certified by the National Institute of Education (NIE) which boasts a rich history. It bewilders me that a government school run by NIE-trained teachers are going to engage private tutors to coach their students in English. NIE-trained teachers are supposed to have quality. So when they seek external help it is a clear sign that something is fishy.
This issue raises the following questions:
(i) Are ASS teachers incompetent to teach?
(ii) Are external teachers more competent than NIE-trained teachers?
(iii) Are the external teachers from private schools NIE-trained?
(iv) What is the pre-qualification required by MOE for the foreign student to be eligible for enrollment in a government school?
