SINGAPORE - With the help of a taxi driver, police managed to arrest a 41-year-old man who allegedly committed armed robbery on Thursday.
The victim had also been a cabbie. The suspect, who was caught on CCTV, had opened the front passenger door of a stationary taxi along Jalan Bukit Ho Swee, brandished a sharp object and demanded that the driver hand over his money. The suspect fled after getting the cash. The incident occurred at around 8.20pm.
On Friday, police got a call from a cabbie whose passenger was behaving suspiciously. Officers who responded found that the passenger fit the profile of the armed robbery suspect. The suspect was subsequently arrested along Orchard Road at around noon.
Anyone convicted of armed robbery faces a jail term of three to 14 years, and shall receive not less than 12 strokes of the cane
