KHON KAEN — Police are hunting a British man suspected of fatally shooting his Thai wife outside a homestay in Maha Sarakham before fleeing the scene with a firearm.

Investigators at Don Wan police station said they were alerted to the shooting at around 11:00 at a homestay in Ban Nong Hin, Moo 4, Khok Kor subdistrict, Muang district.

The victim was identified as Phatree Uraphanom, 44, a resident of Khok Kor. She was found dead at the scene after being shot with a gun.

Preliminary investigations identified the suspect as Anthony James, a British national and the victim’s husband. Police said the couple had argued before the suspect allegedly opened fire on his wife and fled in a white four-door Isuzu pickup truck registered in Chon Buri province, taking the gun with him.

Police later found the abandoned pickup near the Sirikit Heart Centre of the Northeast in Khon Kaen province. CCTV footage from nearby areas showed the suspect being picked up by a Ford car near the Ad Lib Hotel in Khon Kaen.

The Ford vehicle was then seen heading along Ruenrom Road in Muang district, Khon Kaen, which police believe may have been used as an escape route out of the area.

Authorities have coordinated with police in Khon Kaen and neighbouring provinces to set up checkpoints and roadblocks, while reviewing CCTV footage along possible escape routes to track down the suspect.

Police have urged the public to report any sightings of suspicious individuals or a Ford vehicle with registration number 4839 to emergency number 191 or the nearest police station.
