A Tale of Two Generals

thats the greatest honour and achievement in their career...mind u..dont belittle it..lol

And then after they retire, go into politics and become dogs. So that confirms that they are "leaders" with no spine. If they are true generals with substance, they would have gone into politics leading their own party, fighting for what they believe in.

These generals main job is to lick the king's and prince's ass and suck their dicks. Just think of these generals as MIWs doing their NS or reservist like one of us doing our NS or reservist and you won't be so disapointed

these are not generals. do not degrade the title "General" by associating these lackeys, bootlickers and whores with that title and honor.

You try to organise you own company dinner and dance and let me know the results

You're missing the point here. Military chiefs DO NOT organize parades. You don't see that achievement as being part of the resume of generals worth thier salt anywhere except for maybe places like here and North Korea. Obviously, there is a high premium on such achievements here because of pea-brained people who think orgainizing a parade is the hardest and greatest thing for a general to do.

There are people who do those things - event organizers, management companies...etc.

A military chief does what a military chief do - command troops.

The difference?
A paper general who never fire a single round at any enermy.
A brave one who went thru many battles.

:biggrin:.. the paper general will still be directing paper wars in his ops room while the enemy troops are already outside discussing how to storm it...:biggrin:

Ours is a deterrent force and not a offensive one.

U are such a fucking retard. Have u ever served NS!! Name one aspect of the SAF that is defensive in nature. The entire SAF is geared towards OFFENSE!!!. Coastal hook amphibious exercises - offensive. KC-135 tankers to extend the range of our fighters - offensive. F-15s, AVLB, bridging equipment, Leopard 2s, etc. ALL Offensive. Every SAF general for the last 10 years has admitted the SAF is offensive, and the poison shrimp strategy is long dead.

i don't care how our general compare with powell.
but more importantly how he compares with our most immediate countries.
can someone post the credentials of the generals north and south of us?

U can already see they have vastly more experience than SAF.
malaysia -
1) First Emergency - 1948-1960 - against the communist party of Malaysia, insurgency and jungle warfare fighting
2) Congo peacekeeping mission - 1960-1962- Contingent of 2000 personnel send to Congo into live fire area.
3)Sarawak Insurgency - 1963-1990 - Again communist insurgency and jungle warfare.
4) Krontasi - 1963-1966 -Hot war between malaysia and Indonesia
5) Communist insurgency war - 1967-1989.
6)Angola - 1991-1995 - send one contingent to enforce ceasefire in angolan civil war
7)Bosnia- 1993-1998 - 8,000 troops send under Un auspices and engaged in combat.
8) Somalia -1993-1994 - They made a movie about that `Blackhawk down`

Operating an army is not different from operating an MNC, infact some of the american company in the oil services that are operating in Iraq are run by ex armed forceds perssonel.
As regards to our general organising a national day parade, running any organisation requires good organisation skill, people to people relationships.
During the 2004 tsunami, our chinooks, our c-130 and our landing ships were in Bandar Acheh with a few hours and in fact earlier than some indonesians army logistics.

It reflect 1 thing, our armed forces are ever ready to move logistics within a short notice. In fact we are telling our neighbours , our alert system can be activated swiftly.
Our K135 , our drones are in agfanistan for real war scenerios but for holidays.

how to compare like this? guess if he was sent to afgan, he might fight better than those who were there now? who knows?

There is no way to u can land your chinook in the mountains of Afghanistan in broad daylight without being a sitting duck. Even USA with its air superiority, the mountains served as a good shield for the taliban.

If my general or joint chief of staff is charging up the hill with me, then I would extremely worried. Charging up a hill and fighting in the jungles is tactical, what we need is a general who can plan and execute strategic battle plans.

Sometime u need generals in the front for morale. Such as in the case the battle of normandy, there are BGs, Cols fighting on the beach, charging and planning while the germans are shooting at them. Look at General Paton, he too likes to be in the front with his soldiers, that's why many respect him as a true General than General Eisenhower. Whether our Generals are paper generals or not, is not up to us to decide right now at this moment. Maybe when war happened, he might lead us to defend singapore successfully! Time will tell. Never judge a book by it's cover.

General or not, truth be told, when put to the test for which they are paid millions, they talk crap, perform fcuk all and yet strut around like they have been there, done that IN THEIR NEW ROLES, when even in their previous roles as "GENERALS" they have never ever had to dodge anyone's bullets.

Our SAF's generals are clowns in disguise. Take the look at Kee Chiu and Overtime Tan, not forgetting our dear Rear Admirer.

Kee chiu if you want to tell us what do you think of generals like Overtime Tan.

Our generals really cannot make it in a real army. In Singapore, the army is mainly made up of conscripts. Most conscripts will just do their 2 years, geng as much as possible and move on. The regulars have learn to strictly follow the books. Lots of stuff are so commercialised - starting with aircon buses and catered food. The Singapore army as a organisation is a joke.

Got to split into 2 postings because of character limitation.

The generals in their civilian ministerial roles showed neither leadership nor any charisma. Had they exhibited some of those qualities, I am sure SBF brothers will not suan them so badly.

And please, please do not remind me of the Sentosa Cable Car rescue. That is really a bundle of joke - the pilot flying the rescue helicopter is an Aussie.

What is this? Got to wait 40 seconds somemore.

and it was someone from the police suggested to use helicopter for the rescue.
but the glory all go to SAF and LHL.

NKH may not be the best example....
This chap afterall is ranger trained and 'observer' conflict in Middle East.
There are many pure scholars in SAF to use as example....many currently in parliament.
