A Beautiful Gal and Casinos

Nope, not the least, I'm saying having a casino can have benefits if the policies are implemented correct enough to control and maintain the other social ills it brings. I'm agreeing on the MIW have dropped the ball in implementing these polices.

Yes, money wise for the govt is good and plenty of groupier jobs for foreigners.

But have you considered the ill and long term effects of gambling?

Just make it short and sharp..are you in favour of casinos in SG? (it's perfectly alrite to favour it. likewise it's perfectly alrite for me to be against it. my thread is just for discussion)

I'm in favour of casino and brothels and all these vices you talk about. I'll even support Marijuana. I'm a leftist at heart. But, I would only support them with the right policy in place and implementation. There are a lot of countries that have casinos for ages! Singapore isn't the only one that has it. Life moves on in these countries. You should highlight the policy failure of the MIWs, rather then an all out bash of whether its morally right or wrong.

The policies faliures have been highlighted to the pap and are all clear for those who open their eyes to see. I dunt need to regurgitate what are the clear and present failures of the pap policies...but as in most country, I will speak out when ever I have the opportunity.. No one, including the pap, can silence me from speaking what I believe.

Tracy,
I hope, if you are an opposition candidate, do not just make casinos and prostitution the be all end all issue. Highlight the PAP policies on how it is detriment to Singapore. An example you've given.

Jobs such as Groupiers could be restricted to Singaporean only. No gambling allowed if you are a groupier etc. Money taxed from the casino are to be used for social development etc. The $100 entry fee used to help gambling addictions etc.

Thanks...Casino is one of many PAP failures that caused much sadness to SG families and also exposes PAP's inadequacies...I hope the Opposition will highlight these including other pap failures.

good suggestion...but what's implemented is very different from your ideal suggestion. many groupiers are filipinos and malaysians and they get subsidised and priority to rent HDB flats. Singaporeans working as groupiers in RWS are not allowed nor entitled to opt for such HDB rentals although they get the same pay.

There are some bad blood and discontentment among the RWS staff..similar to how singaporeans see the pap giving preferential treatment to foreigners.\

It's only in SG that own citizens are discriminated against and foreigners get preferential treatment by the pap.

time to vote out the pap.

BTW, I am just the average Singaporean who loves SG and Singaporeans..I am not against foreigners who truly work and benefit SG. I am just against the ill conceived and ill implemented pap foreign worker policies

If you want to know the ground feel of Singaporean groupiers, just speak to anyone of them working at RWS...their take home pay is abt S$1600 per mth, same as the foreign groupiers...but the foreigners get hdb rentals at <$200 per mth whereas Singaporeans have to take at market rate which is abt $500 per mth.

why is hdb helping RWS and leasing out hdb flats to RWS foreign workers at preferential rates? why is a singaporean groupier who has served two-yrs NS denied the hdb RWS leasing scheme?

know the truth and u will know that the pap is bad

Singaporean groupiers are not allowed to gamble...that's good.

Casino levies are given to the Totaliser Board which helps to fund social programmes..But the govt has to do more...I know of a single mother of one gal who has kidney problem and has to go for dialysis regularly, has heart problems and is almost blind...her daughter is in sec 4...after CDC supported her at $360 per mth for two yrs, the support was terminated. YThe reason given to her was that CDC has already supported her for two-yrs and cant go on supporting her...

Her daughter used to get $1 per day from the School Pocket Fund but this was reduced to 50cents per day...that's paltry support for a 15-yr old student...

What a warped reasoning by CDC as her situation and condition has not changed. shdnt the support be based on needs rather than time? this is the pap govt we are talking abt. publicly the pap says that no singaporean will be left behind..the truth is that many are left in the lurch..sick, poor and aged.

know the truth and you will know that what the pap does does not match what it says

I haven't been back in Singapore for many years now. I read and hear stories about what is going on in Singapore from friends and relatives. It sounded bad from what I heard. The policies I suggested are implemented in other countries. It is not difficult to enforce and would have been popular as well. I suspect there maybe other factors involved as well. The casino license and the investment made by the casino owners are not cheap. This could have played a part. I was asked recently if something like Egypt could happen in Singapore. I said not a chance in the near future. Don't even hope that the opposition could win any reasonable amount of seat. The answer is simple, Singaporean, with all its gripes now are still relatively happy. What happened in Egypt happened for at least 30 years. Maybe, if the situation continued in Singapore for another 20 years then we would see something similar.

Like I said, know what's on the ground and you will realise what you read from the pap is distorted..

Singaporeans are not an ungrateful people...and others shd not just think that Singaporeans are whinners

The lee hsien loong govt has chosen the easy path because it has run out of idea. It has chosen to build casinos, promote gambling...next, money laundering, drugs and other vices will be condoned. The LHL Cabinet has taken the wrong and narrow path. It needs to repent.

I really do not see what this has to do with beautiful girls. But I do share part of the viewpoints. I do not share the 'repent' part as I doubt anyone can say they make mistakes. They probably feel they are too advanced for the average Singaporean.

It is very unlikely that the myraid oppositions can win more than two seats which becomes proof of the bubbling democracy Singapreans live in. So if PAP failure will come about because they did not perform and there is a strong opposition, then PAP will definitely not fail in this round of elections.

If the election especially in AMK constituency can be positioned as an endorsement of the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's policies, then that might be the most valuable thing the opposition can ever do for this election.

At the least, it will provide to the Prime Minister feedback of his foreign talent, casino, F1, YOG, GIC, Temasek, Town Council, HDB policies done within the last 5 years. Without such feedback, he may do similar policies for the next 5 years thinking that the average Singaporean will ultimately wake up to the benefits of his glorious policies.

Interesting, we would have to wait till GE to see if this happens. The case you highlighted, I'm sure there are numerous others as well. The thing you have to remember that free press is a very important institution. Without it, cases like this would never have been highlighted at all, or get publicised. Another important lesson from the Egypt case is, use the internet when this happen. Even when Mubarek shuts down the entire countries internet connection, there is still a way to get information to the masses.

True..Until the advent of the internet, what singaporeans and others read were all controlled by the SG media which were controlled by the pap...with internet, the truth surfaces.

That's why the pap has to learn that you can bluff all the people some of the time, but you can bluff all the people all the time.

The pap has to change its strategey and be honest to singaporeans...work sincerely with the people and it will get the people's trust and support...if the pap continues to bluff its way through, it will finally die and be relevant because, trust once betrayed, is hard to regain.

Singaporeans trusted the first generation pap leaders but are feeling betrayed now...it's up to the pap to reassure singaporeans

Something like wikileaks would be useful as well. Anonymous whistle blowing.

Absolutely...

I think what Singaporeans want of the pap is to be truthful and not to lie...dont need to lie if it is above board and sincere

I support wikileaks...why shd the political leaders be allowed to hide behind cloak of secrecy?

I just had an interesting thought. All these years, why are there no major scandal leaked? Only two possibility.

1) Singapore government is so transparent, uncorrectable, honest, self-sacrificing, that nothing scandalous ever happen.

2)The people are too afraid to say or do anything. They actually know what is going but continue to tolerate it.

Think about it? Are there really no scandals in Singapore at all for the PAPs?

There are...but risk being sued for scandal even if it is the truth,,,just like Archie Ong vs TT Durai in the NKF case
