A 73-year-old man was found dead in his flat at Block 994A, Buangkok Link, after he failed to turn up for work for two consecutive days.
The case took place on the evening of June 20, at around 7pm, in a unit on the 12th floor of the block.
The man, who lived alone, is believed to have been dead for some time before he was discovered, as his unit had begun to smell.
According to Shin Min Daily News, a female neighbour said her interactions with the man were limited to occasional encounters in the corridor or while throwing out the trash. She added that she would sometimes see him watching television with his front door open when she walked past his unit.
The neighbour said that on the afternoon of June 20, a man in his 30s came to the block together with his mother, looking for the elderly man and asking around for information.
The younger man reportedly said that the elderly man was his employee, and that he had not turned up for work for two days. He also said the elderly man usually called his mother every day, but had not done so over the past two days.
The man is believed to have subsequently alerted the police, who arrived at the scene at around 7pm and stayed until late into the night.
The neighbour said that in hindsight, she recalled the elderly man's door being shut for several days, with the lights on even during the day. She also said she had not heard the usual sounds of him entering or leaving the unit, such as the door or keys.
She added that the windows of the unit had remained open throughout, and that no smell was noticeable until the police arrived and opened the front door. She shared that she is currently pregnant and has had to keep her own door closed because of the odour.
She described the man as someone who was generally quiet and did not interact much with neighbours, but said she felt sad to learn of his death.
The Singapore Police Force confirmed that they received a call for assistance at 7.45pm on June 20, reporting an unconscious man at the location. The 73-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations indicate that foul play has been ruled out, and the case is still under investigation

sinkie old farts who live alone should leave their doors open all day and night to let out the smell and let in body recovery crew. otherwise have to break good old sturdy doors which trap the overpowering bau and decomposing body inside. what a waste of wood.
