An elderly man in Singapore was found dead alone in his flat on Jan. 24, after neighbours noticed a foul odour emitting from the unit.According to Shin Min Daily News, the man had been dead for several days by the time he was found by police.

Volunteers who were distributing Chinese New Year food made the discovery on the eighth floor of the rental flat along Pipit Road when they knocked on his door, but did not receive an answer.
A neighbour told Shin Min that she noticed the man's absence as they would greet each other along the corridors whenever they met, though he usually kept his door closed and did not interact much with neighbours.
The pair last met five to six days before his body was found, with the neighbour reporting that he appeared normal at the time.
She said that she noticed the odour two days after that, but had initially assumed it was the smell of cat faeces.
As the smell grew stronger, she assumed the cat in question had died, but did not find any evidence of such.
The volunteers only called the police on Jan. 24 after being informed that the stench had lasted days.

The deceased was known to have lived alone in the flat for more than 10 years, receiving no visits from relatives or friends, even during holidays.
The police confirmed his death upon their arrival, ruling out homicide upon preliminary investigations.
Another death the day before
Another similar instance of an elderly death reportedly occurred a day prior, on Jan. 23, where a 67-year-old man was found dead in his Tampines flat, where he lived alone.
His body was found in the seventh-floor unit at Block 227, Tampines Street 23, by a social worker who was delivering the day's lunchbox.
Instead, he found the previous day's meal hanging on the door, leading him to sense something amiss and call the police.
The man's neighbour told Shin Min that they had lived side by side for 15 years and had a good relationship.

"Because he has dwarfism, I help him whenever I can, like helping him assemble furniture. Sometimes I cook a meal and bring him some to eat," he said.
He, too, saw the man's lunchboxes hanging outside his door the day prior to the discovery of his body, and reportedly called the man twice but did not receive an answer.
