A 51-year-old woman in Singapore, who spent S$3,600 on matchmaking services got matched with a man who hasn't finalised his divorce.

The woman, surnamed Qi, told Shin Min that she saw a LoveStruck advertisement on Instagram in March 2024.

She said that she spent about S$3,600 on a "six-month premium package", and the agency staff told her that they would match her with someone who was of a "higher status."

The staff also told her that if she purchased a photo service package and had her photos taken by a professional photographer, it would help to increase the chances of her finding a match.

She had already paid almost S$300 at the time, and still had to spend extra money to edit her photos, which cost about S$60 to S$90 per photo.

Qi said that she had told the photographer that she didn't require any touch-ups and wanted her original photos, but they refused.

"I purchased the photos but I ended up not getting them," she added.

The agency later matched her with a 55-year-old man, stating that he was a divorcee. Qi decided to meet him and felt that he was a good match for her after their first date.

However, when they went on their second date, the man brought up his wife, and Qi discovered that the two were still living together.

"I was shocked when I found out he had yet to finalise his divorce with his wife," she said. "I decided to stop seeing him as I didn't want to be known as a "mistress"."

Later, when Qi questioned the staff at LoveStruck, they denied that the man was still together with his wife, and the matter was subsequently dropped.

"They didn't introduce anyone to me afterwards but they still wanted me to renew my contract," Qi said. "I decided to ignore them as I felt like I had been deceived."

In another case, a 63-year-old woman in Singapore, surnamed Zhang (transliteration), who paid almost S$3,200 for a matchmaking package, requested a refund after getting matched with a man who was in his 80s.

The man was more than 10 years older than the age range that she specified.

Zhang told Shin Min Daily News that she had purchased a one-year premium package from LoveStruck in 2022 and paid about S$3,199 for it.

LoveStruck is a matchmaking agency founded in London, and its Singapore operations are run by the dating platform, Love Group.

She said that staff from the agency had previously mentioned that they could match her with a man who was in his 60s and was doing investments in China. She believed that he could be a good match for her, since she was also running a business.

However, about one to two months later, the staff claimed that the man had gone overseas and could no longer arrange a meeting between the two of them.

The agency's app later matched Zhang with a man who was in his 80s.

"I told them before that I didn't want someone who was too old, but they kept recommending me men who didn't fit my criteria."

She said that she had also asked the staff for a refund, but the staff refused.

When contacted by Shin Min, LoveStruck stated that by signing contracts with them, their clients agree to follow the staff's judgment and the company's own formula for finding matches, rather than insist on getting matches based on their personal criteria.

With that being said, LoveStruck has yet to comment on the complaints made by clients.

Two men had requested refunds as they were not getting any matches, but their requests were also denied

In another instance, a man, surnamed Huang (transliteration), told Shin Min that he had bought a two-year package in 2019 and paid a total of S$1,700.

However, the 49-year-old stated that even after a year, the agency had not found a match for him.

He said that he tried to contact the staff but did not receive any response.

"I later complained to the authorities, hoping that the problem would be solved," Huang stated.

Another customer, a 36-year-old man who works as an auxiliary police officer, said that he had purchased a one-year package for S$1,800 from LoveStruck in 2022.

However, he was not matched with anyone even after six months.

He told Shin Min that he later filed a report at the Small Claims Tribunal.

LoveStruck later told the man that they would extend his package for two years at no extra charge, but he has yet to receive any further updates from them.

Not the first complaints against the matchmaking agency

Many other members reportedly made complaints against LoveStruck's services.

Earlier this month, Shin Min Daily News reported that a 56-year-old woman spent almost S$1,000 at the same matchmaking agency but was not satisfied with any of the matches. Some of them were even the same people she had matched with the first time she signed up for one of their packages.

The president of the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE), Melvin Yong, previously also told Mothership that CASE had received 69 complaints against the agency's parent company Love Group from January 2024 to Aug. 28, 2025.

Could have saved the money and hooked up with a female CISCO guard. They are lonely too.
