SINGAPORE - Police are investigating against a woman and a man for lodging two separate false reports of extortion and robbery.

The female suspect, an ex-insurance agent, told police on Sep 25 that one of her clients had taken compromising photos of her and was using them to extort money from her.

Following investigations, the woman, aged 25, was found to have misappropriated the client's money.

The second suspect, who is a taxi driver, told police on Sep 26 that he had been robbed by two armed suspects along Yishun Avenue 11. The 64-year-old man alleged that the culprits threatened him with a screw driver before fleeing with about $160 from his taxi.

Following an extensive interview, police established that the man lodged the false report to file a fraudulent insurance claim, as he could not afford to pay for his daily expenses.

Investigations against both persons are ongoing. If convicted, they face a jail term of up to a year, a maximum fine of $5000, or both.

The public is advised against making untrue reports and wasting police resources.
