You just don't invite someone over, pay their airfare, host them, blanja them makan for them to criticize you.
Helen Clark is regarded by all New Zealanders as the worst PM they ever had. She was soundly defeated in the last GE by John Keys who was just returned for another term with increased majority. Helen Clark led NZ to its worst economic conditions. Instead of focusing on bread and butter issues essential to the people's daily living, she spend time on worthless projects like saving the whales and preserving some old expedition wreckage in South Pole or something like that. It was little wonder she was badly routed and in fact it was so bad she disappeared from the scene for quite awhile.
So for somewhere with such a notorius track record that all Kiwis are ashamed of, how much importance should we give to her speeches, including this one praising S'pore?
Apparently, lots of her facebook fans want her back as PM.
My point being, if a UNDP head praises Singapore, what hope will the SDP have in gaining international recognition of SG's HR abuses and lack of political freedom
How naive can one I get!!! Of course her facebook friends would want her back as PM what. Those are her supporters who had benefited individually when she was in power. If Hitler and Saddam Hussein would have a facebook back then, they too would have facebook friends who support them. So would be Putin.
What u fail to register is that just how much weight the international community would give to her comments about S'pore? Helen Clark has proven to be a failure and a has-been and it's only out of sympathy that she got this UNDP head post. Who would bother about what she says?
Who would bother are the people. They see that Clark agrees so how can the SDP ever be right?

You got to be kidding. Out of 100 S'poreans, probably only 10 are aware of this speech by Clark. S'poreans do not read news that praises the PAP govt, they had enough of that for past 50 years. News that attract them are those relating to housing, medical and COEs etc. And yes. MRT breakdowns.
