NCMPs Yee Jenn Jong and Gerald Giam are front-runners to contest Hougang by-election after its MP Yaw Shin Leong was sacked unceremoniously from the party today.
In a terse press conference called at the Workers Party Headquarters, Chairman Sylvia Lim announced the sacking of Mr Yaw with immediate effect.
Mr Yaw has earlier tendered his resignation from the WP CEC as treasurer with the position being taken over by Mr Yee.
Mr Yee garnered a respectable 49.3 percent of the votes in Joo Chiat during the 2011 election while Mr Giam’s team in East Coast GRC managed to win 46 percent of the votes.
Party insiders speaking on the condition of anonymity said the both NCMPs are in the driving seat to be fielded by the party in Hougang and an official announcement would be made soon.

Ng Swee Bee - if Yaw was Low right hand, she was the left hand, hougang local gal, no1 know hougang better than her.. She is likely to win by larger margin than Yaw
Glenda Han Su May - popular with the humsap ah pek here, she renounce her claim in the current succession battle when she chao geng and pontank to HK for more than 4 years, 0 credibility in Hougang, 100% credibility in the local club scene, not forgetting club scene in paris, hong kong and at least 24 other countries, supposely the best chiongster in the whole opp and some say PAP. Her longevity in the party as the last of the 06 trash left was due her not being a threat to any1
Koh Choong Yong - He was 2nd choice to take over Hougang, outed Perry before being ousted by Li Lian as WPYW president, Chance for him remain high
Lee Li Lian - Previously one of Swee Bee sidekick, her credible result in last GE 3 corner has fast track her over Choong Yong in the current Hougang sucession battle.
Png Eng Huat - His credible Rally performance mean his stock has risen considerably, however after being sideline by Eric and Gerald in East Coast, he may be too old to in the race for Hougang sucession battle.
Bernard Chen Jiaxi - rumoured to be the new Yaw that Low is grooming, shrouded in mystery
Toh Hong Boon - slim chance of being considered as he is not any of the other names mentioned
Gerald Giam Yean Song - Doubts remain over his dubious stint with South West CDC

Sorry, no thanks. Me not fearing the old man face to face wasn't a boast, as witnessed by Uncle Yap among others. But that's not the point. 饶欣龙遭开除后，后港议员一席悬空，补选的日期尚未敲定，但为保娘家，刘程强已紧密进行部署。
记者接到消息，指刘程强在后港市镇理事会召开会议，讨论未来的一些事项。记者到场守候，的确发现许多后港的基层委员陆续出现，并且进入后港市镇理事会。
刘程强受访时表示，召开会议是想要了解基层委员的未完成项目，并引进方荣发和黄瑞美，协助市镇会的运作。

Mr Low Thia Khiang, the secretary general of the Worker's Party.
Mr Low Thia Khiang called a meeting in Hougang last night (19 Feb) to introduce two key party members to work in the ward.
The two Worker's Party (WP) members, both from the party's executive council, are Png Eng Huat, the deputy webmaster, and Ng Swee Bee, the organising secretary and vice-president of the youth wing.
Reporters witnessed many Hougang grassroots committee members arriving to attend the meeting, believed to be part of Mr Low's plan to safeguard his longtime stronghold.
Low explained that the meeting was intended for him to better understand the current outstanding projects in Hougang, as well as to introduce Png and Ng to the workings of the town council.
