The pap has said that the whip will not be lifted for the coming Parliamentary Debate on the Ministerial Salaries Review. This is interesting and bears both bad and good news.

Bad news:

1. All PAP MPs have to vote according to PAP's policy regardless of their conscience and even if they disagree with the review.

2. The pap has not changed much and is determined to bulldoze its way through regardless of Singaporeans' and MPs' sentiments.

3. The recommendations have been passed by Parliament regardless of whatever the MPs say even if more than 90% disagree. This is a very unhealthy situation.

Good news:

1. Does the PAP sense that many PAP MPs have a conscience and will vote against the review should the whip be lifted? This is indeed good news!!!

2. Is LHL afraid that his support for the review will be defeated if Parliament is given a free hand to vote according to their conscience?

3. Is there a good bunch of PAP MPs who truly believe in altruism, glory and honour in serving Singapore and not money?

4. Is there a PAP faction brave enough to speak up against LHL and LKY?

With the Whip confirmed in place, Singaporeans have to listen carefully to what every PAP MP says during the Parliamentary debate since each has to vote "yes" to the review. Hopefully this episode will enlighten more Singaporeans to Parliamentary Democracy and better prepare us for the next GE

This is indeed bad news.

I would have very liked to see which dog would have the guts to have a bite as loud as their bark.

Of course, we would then have been able to know who to gangbang all the way till 2016.

Yes, that's good news. Since we know that every PAP MP will vote and support the review, that forces us to be more vigilant and attentive to what the MPs say during the Parliamentary debate

What logic is it? The only defense for benchmarking the ministerial salaries to top income earners is to be able to attract similar caliber of people to enter politics. Assuming by keeping the same salaries as what have been proposed but benchmarking against the median income or a weighted basket of income instead, wouldn't that achieve the same effect with the added advantage of providing an incentive to right income inequalities. It might not give them much political mileage when benchmarking at several multiples of a median income but it would be for the good of the country. Someone should ask for this amendment but with the whip in place, none of the PAP members will be able to do it and even if a WP member proposes this change it will be voted down.

would love to see the whip lifted and see who wants a higher pay and go against pinky

Agree...that's why it is important for a PAP MP who has a conscience to speak up although he cant vote against the review.

It is also important for Singaporeans to deny PAP two third majority

The dogs will follow their master. The Whip not lifted because they do not want the public to witness any dissension.

These folks have already made a pact with the Devil hence they do not have any conscience to speak of
:D

Too much monetary benefits n status at stake,NO PAP is going to vote
against the motion to accept the salary review for ministers.
Just remember this, all PAP MPs are self-serving for their own interests
n NOT serving the interests of the citizens.

The whip should whip himself.

PS: Is it still Zorro? :D

It would be interesting if the whip is lifted and the MPs can vote according to their conscience

Ok, thanks for the update.
So the whip can go whip the ex-whip. :D

hahahaha..both have to be whipped?

but seriously, I think GKY is doing fine:) wish i could honestly say that of LSS too

LHL already said that he supports the recommendations but many feel that the cut is not deep enough. my sense is that it will be cut further at the next review
