If dogs have not been domesticated by man, they will still be just wolves. How big is the wolf population? Today, a dog is man's best friend. It welcomes you home with its bark and by wagging its tail and looks forward to the rewarding rub around its neck. Even if by accident, it wanders from home, it will eventually find its way back home which is man's home where it finds comfort. I think it boils down to getting use to it. A dolphin in a show gets reward of a feed after a successful stunt. In the process, it also has the pleasure of nudging the butt of the care-giver as part of the show. I do differentiate between animal for food and animal for pet. Any animal not owned as pet is edible. Without respect to the animal, but with respect to the owner.
