if we really wants to help, we should have send in at least a 100 rescuers, what can the japanese do with 5 pathetic very scare of radiation SCDF? The Japanese still need to waste 1 to 2 men to entertain the very scare of radiation Singaporeans

I suspect it is more a learning trip for the SCDF chaps than we contributing towards the rescue efforts. We are more a hindrance than anything. Same applies in the aftermath of a terrorist attack. Our chaps are sent to the country to learn and PR here and there.

yes, a blardy hindrance than anything...doubt they contributed to any rescue effort for the 4 days- two days travelling from sin, one day to deploy but returned to base due to radiation fears and balik kampong the next day. crimal waste of tax monies :(

i think all came back home on the second day......

Sounds more like a holiday trip to me; take a 6 hours flight and another 7 hours back.

Guess who is paying their airtickets nd expenses ; taxpayers !:D

they have a few rounds of sushi, sake and udon before returning back to Singapore

It's common knowledge in the Civil Service that educational trips, liaison trips etc are all holidays. More for golf games than anything. The more attractive the destination, the more senior chaps will go. Those non-attractive trips, the mid-rank chaps will go. Clothing allowance part of the deal for some countries.

whole trip was 6 days (sat-thu) , but coming back alone took 2 days.. (wed morning to thu)
so flying there + going into the zone + deployment can easily take up 3 days (like Semaj2357 said)
i think actual field work may just be 1 day :o

I believe they were asked to go home with their doggies if they are so scared of radiation. Want to help but also afraid of this and that. Very malu.

They wend there with Singapore flat and came back holding PAP logo. The agenda is clear.

What a disgrace! They should have stayed for a longer duration to really learn and contribute. Not make their CV appear impressive.

As long as they are able to insert the experience into their CV, doesn't matter how long they stay there. Nobody will know anyway.

With no experience regarding natural disaster, this is just another field trip for them. :D

The team should have stayed home after their Christchurch exposure! They go there with 5 dogs to "pai samper" only. Sheer waste of time and resources. They have also let the nation down. So malu! What about other rescue teams? Did they also go home without so much as a whimper?

They're sent just as a token representation. They'll come back with a promotion.

5 person better dont send at all. Sent at least a company best one battalion(sure got face).
So many navy ship should sent 2 or more with helicopter in to help the victim.
