Yeah, there's no free will. I personally couldn't care if I have the freedom to leave my house or the freedom to open my mouth. Freedom is an illusion.![]()
unlike you, I am free to do what I want

What a loser thread started by a sinkie peasant
This is done on a willing basis. No one forces them to come.
All these PRC peasants come here for work opportunities, which are in short supply in China
Willing seller Willing Buyer
there are several compelling reasons that people have for believing in free will, not the least of which is that we have a constant awareness of making decisions that seem to be driven by our own volition. In addition, free will is a very useful concept when it comes to the justice system , we take responsibility for our criminal actions and accordingly, are eligible for personal punishment, which is deemed to be necessary for protecting society. Currently, in order to be found guilty, a criminal must be considered responsible for his actions , otherwise, he can be found not guilty by reason of insanity .![]()
I do understand the gist of your argument. But what I'm trying to say is that it serves no pragmatic purpose in analysing the ontology of things other than to keep paid academics busy. I've sought to convince many before that every single action of human beings is self-interested. But I've given up. People are more interested in the effect of seemingly altruistic behaviour than the motivation behind them. To put it simply, why waste time trying to find out if a woman is marrying a man for money or love when she's marrying him all the same? Why care if freewill exists when the illusion of freedom is more pertinent to the lives of people?
good definition...so not freewill?
Yes. Which is distinct from your definition of "slavery is drudgery". It functions on a fallacy i.e slaves perform hard, menial work. Therefore, those who perform hard, menial work are slaves. It's the classic "有胡子的都是你爸爸".
i know where you are heading and i agreed on your perspective view . cheers .
Yes, the modern Singapore Slavery is certainly not done out of their own freewill
If you mean NS, you're right. As for FTrash on low wages, I've to disagree.
Slavery means very hard work or drudgery.
Do we see very hard working conditions or work drudgery in SG? This is modern day slavery not unlike medieval slavery.
Many young women and young men leave their homes in poverty stricken countries to work in SG in very hard working conditions. Some of them pay as much as S$10,000 to the middleman to get a job, 2-yr contract in SG. This amounts to abt 1.1yrs their salary of $800 per mth.
Working conditions are tough and living conditions are appalling. And the sad part is, they cant break the two-yr contract because, if they do, and are sent back, they have no means to pay back the money they borrowed to come to SG. So they are stuck!!! A slave!!!!
How many of us know abt the PRC men and gals and filipinas who work under such conditions in SG? How many of us heard of filipina maids, PRC construction workers, PRC gals working in SATs, who are subject to such deals and conditions?
The pap allows their exploitation. As a singaporean, do you condone such slavery?
For all PAP has claimed about being an open economy, the lowly-skilled foreign worker having to enter by means of paying astronomical sums to a middleman is exploitation.
How PAP can say that their hands are still clean knowing this is happening is disgusting.
Such a system can then be made know via brochures or word of mouth from existing foreign workers to their countrymen abroad.
So long as the process is being a middleman has low barriers of entry, there will be exploitation of the ignorant.
Anti-snakehead laws should also ensure that such ill-gotten wealth should be then punished with a jail term and caning with scars long enough for them to be easily identified in future and not ever dare to do the same again.
National Service is slavery as defined in the Constitution. The Constitution forbids all forms of slavery except compulsory military service.
National Service is slavery as acknowledged in the Constitution. The Constitution forbids all forms of slavery except compulsory military service.
The way some foreign workers were cheated and conned to work in SG under horrific conditions is tantamount to slavery
Getting cheated is not slavery, it's stupidity.
NS is as much slavery as Sammyboy forum is well regarded as Reuters/AP etc.
