Besides mentioning GMS is an army captain, I've mentioned that Steve Chia is also an army captain, Sylvia Lim was a police inspector and Dr. Chee Soo Juan was a police assistant superintendent. Captain in the SAF today is nothing, unlike 30 years ago. These days even bus drivers also 'upgraded' to captain. Restaurants also have many captains. The title of captain worth little today, similar to 'consultants'. Every Tom , Dick and Harry consultant here and there. It cheapens the title.

hahaha...in most established Navies, Captain is actually a Naval rank which is
equivalent to our Col.
In the early years of RSN, there were quite a few jokes and incidents regarding this.

Yeah naval rank system different.. They have commander n lt cmdr etc who command smaller ships while cpt commands larger ships. In sg cols n lt cols command ships too so still equilvalent... Too bad e navy flow army rank. But Wen Teo ch was chief of navy, they created a commodore rank for him lol

The first Commodore rank was given to James Leo not Teo CH.
Later they scrapped the rank and called RA(1 star).

I have no problem if Dr Chee or Silvia Lim was a corporal or PC, they have proven to be articulate and able to charm their followers..as for Cpt GMS many here will spit at him even if he is a general:oIo:

To a former regular PC, a captain (or ASP) is King. To the initiated, a Captain or ASP is nothing but a STARTING rank.
