My very first PC

Yeah, my Atari then cost about S$2,000. I used it for games and BASIC programming hobby only. It came with a monitor but there wasn't even a printer. .......

As a poor student computers were just too damn expensive back then

I did buy 2nd hand Apple II+ clone & Commodore 64 when they were obsolete because I couldn't see myself spending so much $$$.

The 1st brand new computer I ever bought was a Mac SE with an Imagewriter II. Even then I sold it for a profit after owning it for only a few months. :)

Did anyone get an Amiga:confused:

Did not own it, but had borrowed one to play it's musics. At that time for games and music Amiga was better then what I had - had an NEC micro-computer then.

1st time was this:

Then I spent a S$6000 to upgrade to this:

Never got a chance to use an Amiga :(
Heard that it was ahead of its time with the use of coprocessors. I think it had 3 of them??

Hardware wise it was suppose to be better than the Mac, PC, Atari.

man you guys are dinosaurs,

mine was celeron PII 333mhz, that all i recall.

Many people forget that it was the Mac that first came out with the mouse. It introduced many innovations that people take for granted today.

It started the icon OS interface, WYSIWYG, different fonts, laser printers, built-in networking, ....

The mistake Steve Jobs made was trying to keep the Mac an exclusive and expensive product.

This innovation continues with the iPhone & iPad. This time around he's made Apple products that people can afford :)

Forgot what was inside Amiga already. Must be 8 bit. Their hardware were famous for nice graphics and sound effects for games. Impressive at that time.

Some computer shop loaned one to me to evaluate if some of their games could be reproduced on Fujitsu & NEC micro or not. I played with it for 2 days or so.

Seems the only thing that never changed was the QWERTY keyboard...

My first typewriter was Olivetti. :D

Wah Piang! I had nearly forgotten all about the existence of typewriters until I read your msg. Anyone still remember those TELEX Machines - now that you mentioned that thing... :D Fax may soon join Telex.

Telex replaced telegraphs (telegram), fax replaced Telex, email replaced fax, SMS replaced email. And next?

Telegram = Samuel Morse era = 17th century :D

I'll always remember that Olivetti. It was a birthday gift from my uncle. It came with a nice casing and a very good learner's manual. Those days of oiling and cleaning the typecase and changing ribbons were fun. There were only two boys in the entire block who had personal typewriters, me and my friend. The other ah beng boys were simply amazed and in awe. :D

Nowadays, we type on computer keyboards effortlessly. To use a typewriter, it's not only knowing QWERTY but also finger strength required, especially tough training the little finger for the side keys. :(

The noise it made was classic click click clack clack and return carriage cling not heard nowadays anymore. Hearing that noise meant you're passing by an office or the room of some England powder in those days.

The mistake Steve Jobs made was to bring in John Scully from Pepsi to be the CEO of Apple, which eventually led to the ouster of Steve Jobs himself.

Not in use and kept as museum piece after I got the new Smith Corona electronic that could bold, italic, underline with a small scroll screen that could preview before enter. The "Return" key became the "Enter" key. From then on, the click click clang clang cling noises became history.

Many years later, after getting an Epson 386 coming with Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect and dot matrix printer, both the Olivetti manual and Smith Corona electronic were sold to karang guni.
