Fawning - An Asian trait

I have witness the sinkie aura before. it is very turned off and totally disgusted.

There's no such thing as Sinkie aura. Aura has no race and nationality. It's all about personal bearing and personality.

It happens everywhere in the world. The word is aura. If you have the aura, whatever race you are, whomsoever other race or same race will respect and treat you respectfully. Even armed robbers will pass you by and look for some other victims.

I beg to differ. Aura is fine and dandy. But 90% of PAP MPs look like fuck.

And I'll bash up 90% of them if not for the consideration that I'd be no match for the police. Real aura inspires respect without threat or fear, carrot or stick.

That's what I mean, 90% of PAP MPs look like fuck and are mere employees of Singaporeans but there are many Sinkies who treat them like royalty and fawn over them like nobody's business.

I am a very realistic person, I can understand if an employee fawns over his/her boss or a prospective customer. It is in their career interest to do that- not that I would do that myself but I understand why they do that. But fawning over PAP MPs???? You should witness one of such scenes- when PAP MPs make a high profile visit (I am repeating myself for aren't all their visits to the heartlands high profile ones?!)to the neighbourhood wet markets, how people figuratively kow-tow to them.

This is something a doctor friend in Gleneagles noticed over the last decade as more foreigners take up job in Singapore. He could not help but notice that Asian staff from India, PRC, Philippines, Myanmar would fawn over Caucasian patients but do not seem to display the same when it came to Asian patients. He also noticed this when the Caucasian patient did not bother or were rude. He said that it applied to both male and female asian staff.

If Asian are kind and good natured, then they would apply the same treatment to Asian patients. He could not help it. He said that he did not notice the same from Senior staff. He however that Sr Female staff tend to talk to Caucasian with an accent that they do not use when talking to locals.
Asian service staff fawning over caucasians and female asian service staff speaking with a funny accent - I've seen and heard on many occasions.

But not correct to say that fawning is an asian trait or that asians only fawn over caucasians. Some ang mohs are the champions at fawning over their bosses, caucasian or otherwise, or fawning over people who have power or authority over them.
Some asian service staff also fawn over other asians, especially if they think they are powerful and/or wealthy.

Perhaps it's more correct to say
"Fawning over caucasians for no apparent pragmatic reason - An Asian trait.

people figuratively kow-tow to them.

The people who curse and swear at the PAP in this forum do exactly the same thing when they meet their Pappy MPs in real life. The bravado displayed on line evaporates quickly when there is eye contact.

This is classic. :D

Then I am the minority in this forum. Not that I have met my MP many times, but the one and only time I saw her, I told her smilingly: "You look like a super star surrounded by all your RC fans".

She replied with a awkward smile.

Maybe she thought you were complimenting her.

The only time I met my MP, I looked at him in the eyes and walked past him with my nose in the air. His hand was still outstretched as I walked past him. The RC mouths were gaping open.

The first part you got right. Call you sir is not fawning. Do you know the meaning.

Your point is still Asian service providers are in awe of Caucasian customers and make extra effort to speak better and more impressively, isn't it? I'm Asian. I don't feel such thing. If you feel it, all I can say is I feel sorry for you. Even Caucasians call me "Sir" and treat me properly when I'm in Europe or America.

Postcolonial hang up. it all happened one day when the garderner saw John Pinkerton undress from the lawn.

What he saw dangling out of John's breeches not only caused him the blushes, but forever caused him to view himself as a second class citizen. The gardener never understood how his master was in many ways bigger, stronger and longer than him. But since he saw it with his own eyes, there must be different worlds with different realities out there.

The Asian reality happens to like to compare sizes and often defers out of fear, not respect. :D

You are right. Its indeed the same.

It's not only towards ang mos. Anyone allegedly in some position of power would be fawned upon as well. Just look at how the majority of Sinkies treat their MPs and Ministers as though they are demi-gods. These political people are just doing their job; being paid very good money to do their job; without Sinkies they would be nothing.

It's right to treat everyone politely and with respect but fawning over ang mos or MPs or Ministers is just PATHETIC.

Agree with you. The doctor friend told me that some of his colleagues were trying to find a pattern but could not except when it came to gender. The ladies were ahead but then again there more female staff in a hospital. Its an interesting phenomenon.

It depends on the circumstance and tone of "Sir" when uttered. American police officer call the arrestee "Sir" too, as in "Sir, you're under arrest." Then proceed to bodysearch him and ready to bash him up at the slightest physical resistance or shoot him dead if he reaches for something that qualifies as a weapon.

If a Chinese with good bearing shows up at an American restaurant, the tone of a Caucasian waiter calling him "Sir, what'd like to have today" would be completely different. Want to call that "fawning?"

Accusation of inter-racial "fawning" is simply manifestation of racial inferiority complex.

I agree with your observation. But I'll never bow to these dumbfucks. even the PM. I make sure if anybody bows first, it will be the other guy, then I'll reciprocate becuz he bowed first. I wont even extend my hand to shake. I let him do it first.

Indeed, I've been fawned on many times in china. Even before arriving at the hotel, they upgraded me to a bigger room. Even told me the tour agent has paid for everything, I booked it online. Later in the week, the sales manager called me up for a chitchat. Thinking I'm an ang moh over the phone. Realized and was surprised I could speak Mandarin when we met. He thought I was on a business trip and wanted some networking the next time I visit china again. I think this theory of having an "aura" could be valid if you have experienced it before. How you "acquire" it, not too sure about it, maybe it would be like the RDF that some people says Steve Jobs has.
