Frequented Tay Ban Guan when it was first opened, until it closed down, though I do not live in that part of Spore!. I know that belt well..all the makan stalls.....

..

Didn't live in that area but TBG was a regular visits on Sundays.
The comic exchange(Silver Kris) on Marshal Rd, lunch in that area, maybe a show in one of the cinemas in the area, ..., didn't have any malls in those days.

Remember that TBG was the first place where surveillance cameras were install :D

Looks like Orchard Rd, near the Istana?

Yes, indeed.
This picture taken from Macdonald House.
At the juntion of ORCHARD ROAD and CLEMENCEAU AVENUE.
Picture Taken in 1974.
Clemenceau Ave used to run straight
towards Cavenagh road and Istana,
instead of being blocked by the Istana Park now.

hee heee now youngster finally can see what is meant by 'when mata wear shorts..' ! :D

Odeon - was my Top 4 Heavenly King cinemas along with Lido,Capitol, Cathay.

In fact, its namesake also used in the east, as in Katong-Odeon (next to present day Katong Shopping Centre) opposite the Princess Cinema (owned by Kong Gay Group now site occupied by Paramount Hotel).

The Emporium at the other photo (Dong Feng - East Wind) anchor tenant of High(Hill? always confuse the two) Street Centre. Thakral Bros round the corner also old timer in the vicinity.

Empress place hawker stalls....the cantonese lady with the fried mee hoon, peanut porridge, the traditional with the deep fried 'tee tau kee', a taste you can not find these days...

The Yau Tau Foo Stall, not my favourite though, starts at 9am sell out by 2pm everyday..long queue...then the char kway teow stall, very popular, the desserts stall...

beats the food these days at the foodciurts etc..

Odean brings back memories of watching all the Hui Brothers movies usually a Lunar New Year Attractions in those days..and then later Sam Hui "Aces" series...and many other mostly Chinese movies...

The Beef Kway Teow was there..and CYC Shirt...

:D

Ahh thought so, I recognised that small building next to the Borneo motor sign(upper left).

Though I don't remember traffic being so heavy, back then :)

Today all the buildings on the left(Amber Mansion, Hindu Temple,...) are gone & you only have the Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station. Pity they didn't see fit tp preserve those buidings because that area is kind of dead just like around the Bras Basah, ex-national library area . :(

He always ask me to translate all the posts for him. He study only plemly two.

This thread is about the GOOD OLD DAYS. There might have been bad times but we remember only the good things. :)

For me it has brought back memories I forgot about.

Nowadays got many, many problems. Many of which is being caused by the PAP. They have lost touch with our past & what it is to be a Sporean :(

From the YMCA going towards Supreme Bld you could see a digital clock above the Edwar Eu electronics store. The RCA sign must've been put up by that store . RCA was an important brand in those days.

Never visted that store but I would pass that way every day on my way back from school.

Just for the record, the original location for the SPCA was in the Orchard Rd area. On the picture at the upper left where you see the Borneo Motors Sign at the side of the small building. Next to this building there are some trees.

On the left of the trees is the entrance to the SPCA. It was actually a kind of alley that led to the back .
