Almost half the 200 million young people in North Africa and the Middle East want to migrate to the West. The top reasons they gave were “economic factors and corruption in their country,” not fear for their lives. Also, the Arab Youth Survey merely shows the number of youth in these areas who want to migrate, not the adults who wish to do so, or the numbers of those who have already migrated, legally and illegally. Mass illegal Muslim migration continues into the EU — despite the coronavirus lockdown and resulting bad economy, despite the fact that most have been economic migrants jumping the queue.
When the Arab Youth Survey asked about the most important personal value as related to identity, religion was overwhelmingly the most important. 40% cited religion over family, nationality, heritage, language and gender.
Merely two years ago, a Pew Research study showed that up to two-thirds of Sub-Saharan Africa’s 1.1 billion people want to migrate to the EU and the U.S. Given open-door immigration policies in the EU, they will likely have their wish.
