Quoting a study from Food From The heart (FFTH) (a welfare outfit that feeds the poor and hungry in Singapore) STORM, an online publication, pointed out that there were about 105,000 HDB households who get by on less than $1,500 per month, and so experience food insecurity.

The publication said that the study further suggested that poor families and elderly couples past the working age find themselves most vulnerable to food insecurity, and that they are only able to afford low-cost, low-nutrition food, they skip meals, or, sometimes, don’t get to eat at all.

That's absolute rubbish Singapore has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world and there is no poverty whatsoever. Singaporeans are very lucky to have such good governance. They should count their blessings.

Per capita incomes distort reality ....10 pple, 9 earns $10k each while one earn $1 million, per capita is $109k. Looks good on paper but reality is that only 1 person is doing well while the others are paupers!

That is not meritocracy it's blatant racism. In Singapore the elites are from all walks of life and from various different creeds and colours. There are blacks, yellows and browns. There are Chinese, Indians, Malays and and Indians who became Malays. In other words it does not matter. As long as you are the best you qualify as an elite.

The best ones qualifying as elite is not an issue. The problem is when substandard, mediocre people are made elites by virtue of association (blood, marriage, etc). LKY was the original elite because of his intelligence, drive and charisma. Most of those in power today are related or associated with him, and are made elites regardless of their capabilities.
