We have a copy of "MEMOIRS...XXX" somewhere - I think. My nephew is a straight guy - an accountant - who believes in "the book".
I saw the "book" lying around and I turned few pages... the only memory of history in the book was Sir Stamford Raffles discovered Singapore and named it after the animal Singa..., then the immigrants came and we become one nation PERIOD.
Or did I missed some critical history?

Ping tjin Thum
Thum Ping Tjin (“PJ”) is co-ordinator of Project Southeast Asia, and a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford.
A Rhodes Scholar, Commonwealth Scholar, award-winning student, Olympic athlete, and the only Singaporean to swim the English Channel, PJ attended Harvard at the age of 16 where he concentrated in East Asian Studies.
After two and a half years in the Navy, he won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford, where he read for a second Bachelor’s degree in Modern History and Politics.
He later returned to Oxford as Commonwealth Scholar and completed a Doctorate in History. He has also been a Visiting Fellow at the International Institute of Asian Studies, Leiden University, and Research Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore. His work centres on decolonisation in Southeast Asia, and its continuing impact on Southeast Asian governance and politics.
He is creator of “The History of Singapore”, a weekly radio show on BFM89.9 in Malaysia, also available as a podcast at www.thehistoryofsingapore.com or on iTunes.

The face feature of Thum Ping Tjin does not inspire. The only great thing he did probably was "He is the first Singaporean to swim the English Channel". His research in history at Oxford probably is all professional emptiness.
