154th shit filled mouthful of lies.

Taxi driver community has the same profile as the posters here.

Some work hard and make $5k a month (probably special case though $3k - $4k more likely).

Others whine and whine about their $1.5k earnings.

Not too difficult if you camp around and wait for calls and when night falls, you wait around Clark Quay and take tourists back to their hotels for $50 per trip.

Let's get real. S$5K on a good month is believable. But S$5K on a regular monthly basis is pure bull crap. Our 154th ought to slaughter the Town Councils for their excessive charges & their extravagrant pay to their staff.

Maybe possible, for 3 ~ 5K as mentioned in the report.

But that's perhaps before overheads like rent, diesel, parking.

Have you taken cabs recently? A trip from AMK or Jurong or Bedok to city or vice versa is about $25. A short trip within the city is about $5.

A $25 trip is about 20 minutes. Add 20 minutes hunting time the trip is about 40 minutes.

A $5 trip is about 10 minutes. Add 10 minutes unting time the trip is about 20 minutes.

And a taxi driver who works a full day will choose the peak hours 7-10 am, 11-2 pm, and 5 pm to 2.30 am. Let's say he works 15 hours a day.

That will be about 15 long trips and 15 short trips, averaging about $450 a day, giving a profit of $250 a day after car rental of $200 which works out to $7,500 a month. shave off about 1/3 for time wastages, wasted trips, $5k regularly is quite plausible.

Not impossible at all.

Typical taxi driver on the other hand works half shift from 7 am to 5 pm. Rental is more than halved and income is probably halved as well.

Good, informative post.

Agree if they TAXI driver is very hard working min 28day/month work/drive at least 12hr on the road sure can get nett profit $5K/month. Not including eat/drink coffee. Many or 90% are too lazy only drive less than 6 hr on the road/day. Most of them stop drink coffee/chit chat/visit hooker/waiting for call/.....................

What tio boh? In so many years of my taking your local cabs I have NEVER seen a cabbie that is so young AND wears like that, like he is really going to Shenton Way for serious business.

If that is true I should say he's very professional, and that he probably deserves the stated salary he makes too.

For misleading and lying to people, the liars' teeths will rot first follow by their tongues..

If their tongues don't rot they will have ulcers and their mouths would stink like a pig sty for the rest of their lives.

154th is always good at spinning tales.

reality is different...20mins hunting time? could hunting time be longer sometimes? an hour or more? could car be empty for long period sometimes...so many cabs around now also..anyway we wouldnt know the real story..its always easy to throw up figures...

Major taxi stands near MRT stations these days easily more than one dozen taxis wait in queue for passenger everyday during peak hours.

Normal off-peak time confirm 20 minutes hunting time cannot make it.

I have called the cab company to locate this fella, make him one of my regulars because he has good attitude.

Very rare to find. Most taxi drivers negative attitude and think world owes them a living

This guy is good and hardworking.

By the way, is 5k a lot of money?

yes, 5k is just like $500 ...but its already consider good $ for a taxi driver already. by the way , how much does bangkok taxi driver earn ?

he is a criminal for evading tax, but his curry puffs must be damn good

5 October 2007
(Subordinate Courts, Court 23, 9.00 a.m.)

Mr Looi San Cheng, the sole proprietor of Tip Top Curry Puff, had wilfully with intent to evade tax, understated the profits of his business for the Years of Assessment 2001 to 2006. The total amount of profits understated was $1,054,633.

He has therefore committed offences under Section 96 (1)(b) of the Income Tax Act.

Modus Operandi

The principal activities of Tip Top Curry Puff comprise processing, cooking and selling of curry puffs. The stall is located in the coffee shop at 722 Ang Mo Kio Central, #01-2843.

The transactions of the stall were mainly made in cash. Evidence shows that Looi San Cheng deliberately chose to under-declare the profits. He was found to have wilfully with intent to evade tax made false entries in his income tax returns for the Years of Assessment 2001 to 2006.
