I'm sure there must have been some sort of recommendation that people should all move 10 km inland to avoid a repeat of the catastrophe.

Not that one ... but certainly there are some fixing of the tsunami warning system around the regions.

I don't know when and how the kids died. Do you? Should the kids even be there? Was a risk assessment done by TKPS? If so, what did the risk assessment reveal?

We need a COI

You don't know how the kids die ?

The kids should never have died. Since so many died, we need a COI so that mistakes are learnt and not be swept under the carpet

No one should die but when Mother Nature strikes no one should be held responsible for it . It's not the act of human error which we could point our fingers and make people responsible for it . Even some insurance company don't pay out money to victims if nature strikes .

I already said in Post#1 that the aim of the COI is not to find fault. Go read Post#1

what is there to admit when we don't know the facts? what you "know" are just media reports and hearsays which may not be true.

Don't snake around , you mean at that point of time there's no earthquake ? All Those kids are playing with their teachers and fall off the Cliff ?

COI are needed when there's human error  if COI can prevent any nature disaster from happening then by all means set up COI

The argument can be made that the human error was in putting those kids in harm's way by allowing them participate in an activity that would expose them to the wrath of mother nature.

The issue of "risk management" gets taken more to the point of ridiculousness as a country advances. The result of this is the emergence of a soft society where nothing can be done without a huge amount of red tape.

30 years ago Singapore would not be having this discussion, not because there was no internet but because in those days, everyone had a different mindset about what an "accident" meant.
