What is the current situation is concerning TV broadcast rights for the World Cup?

Are Singtel and Starhub bidding for the rights and are we gonna have a fiasco like we did in 2010 when a decision was only confirmed a month before the start? In that case, I believe Singtel and Starhub waited for FIFA to drop the broadcast rights fees to S$21 million to secure a deal but this time, FIFA will be looking for maybe S$30m or even S$40m. Looks like it maybe another round of 'Call My Bluff".

Anyone with useful information care to comment?

Just give it up already. Watch the matches online.

Awaiting the curtain raiser - the slanging between the Green Team and the Red Team, with the utterly useless Man in Black MDA, who don't know what they are reading.

With a good broadband connection, you don't have to bother about TV broadcasting rights anymore. Such deals have become irrelevant.

I am not adverse to using the Internet but even the best streaming sites for the WC matches in 2010 cannot replicate 1080p quality on a HDTV. In addition, these services are often unreliable, in a foreign language and liable to be terminated by the copyright police at a moment's notice.

I doubt whether Singtel or Starhub could be considered telcos with "good broadband connection" given the piss poor customer service I've had with both.

Things have go a lot better since then. EPL used to be on Sky TV in NZ. Everyone into soccer now watches on line http://www.premierleaguepass.com/

The site won the rights from Sky Sports.
