Under an SDP SAF you wont have the military finances to conduct this multilateral

We can get rid of the SAF when sinkapore becomes part of PRC. Time frame depends on how soon the PAP decides sinkapore needs to choose a partner instead of two-timing.

Matter of time before you Canucks will vote socialists to the point of bankruptcy and resort to becoming a territory of your big brothers south of the border.

You and your obsession with socialism? See what capitalism has got us into for the past 5 years? More sufferings to come. Looking forward to seeing middle and working classes (proletariat) lynching the capitalists.

I look forward to be able to move to Shanghai when sinkapore becomes part of China.

How would you convince citizens to have a full time regular defence force

We don't need a 250k defence force. Maintain a 80k military force, consisting of professional soldiers. And reduce paper generals by 90 percent. Our military budget can afford that and more, with spare change.

Of course, if we are part of China, we can be like Hong Kong, no spending on defence needed. Lots more billions to spend on the welfare of sinkees.

sailors? airmen?

they don't have to convince sinkie citizens. they are already building a professional defense force, minus the obsolete, manpower-intensive infantry divisions (which are the cho bo lan units).

The bulk of SAF is made up of cheap labour leh ....without the 18-year olds and the NSMen, the 'professional' force is super duper small.

just look at the number of planners the SAF is providing for this exercise...goes to show that Brunei depends very much on sillipore to assist them, also on Asean matters. Fair exchange for trg grounds

Is there a treaty for sinkapore to defend Brunei and vice versa?

I would think a better option will be for us to sign a formal alliance treaty with USA like the one Japan had. Offer to host US permanent bases here and give them a greater stake economically.
In such a way, there will be no need for us to spend so much money on defence.

If we 'marry' Malaysia again, no need to have NS.

That's no longer possible after the expose of sinkapore's two-timing (unauthorized transfer of US technology to China via IME).

The only option left is for sinkapore to run to China. Sinkapore can host a division of PRC troops and a few squadrons of PRC jets and lease Changi naval base to them as well.

If sinkapore sign on to be a SAR of China, lagi best, no need to spend on defence totally.

not really in terms of firepower, force multiplier and power projection. all technologically superior units are professional. only the hill-cheonging and trench-digging units are conscripts. in the sg context with respect to regional conflicts, if any, territorial "occupation" and "boots on the ground" prospects, a.k.a. land grab, is extremely remote. the tie up of ns men in 2 years of near-slavery servitude is mainly to perpetuate a self-serving system of no return: huge budget, high headcounts to be used as props and grunts for boosting and preparing officer cadre elites (scholar-generals), captive market for domestic defense industries, jobs and enterprise for supporting industries, complete subjugation and control of young sinkie males, readily cheap labor for events of national and propagandic importance, etc.

I would think the social risk in this aspect are much lower as compare to the number of Indian FT we are importing. Moreover we don't need to host so many American servicemen as Japan does. Maybe 2 units of marines, a few warships (which we are already doing) and some airforce squadrons. who would dare to attack us with American presence here?
