Chitchat If you're over 65 and have a country club membership. Read carefully, you demented

Malaysians and philippinos are normally courteous and well mannered. Only old money sinkies misbehave like this.
I beg to differ based on my personal experience with family, relatives, lifelong friends and acquaintances. Old money have absolutely no need to show off their wealth - unlike the nouveau riche. They tend not to lord it over the lower SES, compared to those who made their own money, who wish to let others know that they are no longer of a low socioeconomic standing.

Why would anyone want to pay monthly subscription fees just to keep others out?

Ever seen the demographics (and population density) of this country recently, and how crowded some of the free public events are?

Private clubs attract a specific demographic i.e. high-net-worth individuals, businessmen, professionals and expats. This creates an environment for members to connect with people who share similar interests, backgrounds or social standing.

CCs used to be a prestige thing from its beginning in 19th century when the committee members are still largely British. And a desirable C under the 5Cs till around late 90s. My recent experience seems like it is a circus under disguise. Least, for SSC. My god, I thought I was spending time with my parents' undead friends :roflmao:

Just imagine Clark Kent got dementia and wear his red underwear on his head.

Private clubs typically offer a wide range of sports facilities, including swimming pools, tennis courts, bowling alleys, gyms etc. These facilities are usually well-maintained and less crowded than public options.

You should come down to SSC and view the pools and tennis courts. I thought I rode the delorean by mistake and transported back to the 80s

My atas friends proudly display his club membership decals on the left side of his car windscreen….some of which are already expired and no longer a member of.

Except for the local high-net-worth individuals, businessmen, professionals, they have become old & demented and thought they are still working and networking. When I say old is like over 70s. The appropriate venue should be a nursing home.

Mind you, the food over there (Singapore Swimming Club) is nothing to shout about tbh. Effing wasted my time over there. Pizza base is frozen, Satay is frozen, Roasted meats tasted like leftovers from previous day.

S'pore only had a population of 2.4 million in 1980, when homes, cars, food and everything else we needed was affordable. It would be nice if we returned to the good old days.

I cannot speak for the other private clubs apart from SICC, TC and RTC where I or my wife possess membership.

I know of a female pharmaceutical sales rep who obtained expired SICC, TC and other private club decals from her doctor clients to plaster her Honda Jazz. Who would believe that someone driving such a modest car owns so many club memberships?

They're long gone. 90s were the golden period. Just the right amount of amenities, infrastructure and entertainment scenes.

If you're a wealthy person with some foresight and children. Send them overseas and tell them don't come back. Anywhere but here.

One of my former NS buddies has been a used car salesman for the past 20 years, and mentioned that his best customers for continental sports cars with 1-2 years remaining on the COE, are Ah Bengs.

Definitely, new money. Old money wouldn't buy such cars.
