Observations Made at the Casino

My e maths grades were not good. But when chances and probability were being taught, I paid a little more attention. The probability of winning at TOTO is 1 in 8.4 million. But its equally likely for a person who buy Toto for the first time and one who buys for donkey years to win at the next River HongBao draw. The odds are 100% you will lose eventually if you visit casino regularly and play as a 'professional gambler'. The only game you may win is from other less experienced gamblers in Texas hold-em. You will find such games in Macau where the Casino takes a cut. Rounders 1998 is a great Poker movie. Or you can read high brow books like The Signal and the Noise by Nate Silver.

Relax man. GD is only here to share interesting gambling and casino tales. We are not young impressionable kids. No one here is gonna decide to become professional gambler just by reading his tales.

I totally agree. Life in the casino is very interesting and very colourful. Yes, I enjoy going to the casino and sometimes, I just go in and watch the people.Very interesting patterns and colourful characters. I love to gamble but I have exercised great restraint so far. No harm done to me or to my career or to my family. I am okay lah. Just love to enjoy the colour stories of GD and others. Life is a joy for those who embrace it.

I never encourage a person to take up gambling - soccer, horses, casino. But if one wants to enagage in these activities, do so wisely. Bookmakers and casino operators are not part-timers. We, as gamblers, should also adopt the same mentality. If really need to gamble, see it as a business. That way, less likely to take unnecessary risks.

Few nights back, I noticed a chap in his late 40s. Well-attired with a jacket. He goes around the tables to note the 'pattern' but never places a bet. He would record all his observations on a piece of paper provided by the casino. Yet to see him place a bet!

Then there is this couple in their 60s. Very irritating. Lots of comments when games are played. Can even provide expert commentary on what the outcome would be. When one places wrong bet, his/her partner sure to have alot to complain. Baccarat is a 50-50 game. Imagine this couple telling others when a pair-pair or tie would appear.

Glad to hear you have great restraint. I always tell my friends that the more desperate you are in winning, the harder it becomes. When you gamble, prepared to lose all your capital because you don't need itl, that's when you are likely to win. Money prefers to be a servant of the already rich!
