Days of Montagut, Fred Perry & Munsingwear T-shirts..

Yep bro. Int those days you can hear the ting very often . I forgot about it. There was also a period when you wore a montagut, had a Dupont , you also had to perm your hair like a mini afro.

Please include DUNHILL belt.

Fred Perry had a revival and in with the young crowd now.
Arnold Palmer was its counterpart.
The kangaroo was Australian...chow yun fatt was their model.

Ha, during younger days used to have one like this

but no mamasan though
Chinese lacquer for those with better taste.
There used to be an uncle Chinatown roadside stall famous for 'tuning' DuPonts....you get the best 'TING' from him.
Only the 'upmarket' mama shops would carry the lighter fluid in different color codes and the replacement flints.
Last visited their counter inside Taka...
The original agent/ distributor in this region was a retired standchart banker...office and service centre used to be at high street.

Those using dupont lighter will lower down the gas coz the refill very expensive :D

You tilt it one side to light cigs if not the flame will char the sides.
You can take apart to do cleaning machiam dismantle rifle.
Refilling require skills as well, the pros will put lighter inside fridge first and heat the refill cartridge when refilling

How about Lacoste and FILA? I think back then in the 80s, these sports brands quite popular..

Once I wore my dad's Montagut shirt to a pub.. The design very retro stylo..

Ok guys lets do the complete peekture;

1) Montagut
2) Rolex watch
3) Dupont lighter
4) Dunhill Belt
5) Permed short hair

I also remember that my mum banned any of my uncles to send or pick me from school. It took a long while before I figured out what it was all about.

Bro, Montagut material smooth smooth shining type?

There are variations but the classic bookie look is Fil Lumiere yarn - about 20 years ago, plain short sleeve was $37, Long sleeve $50, printed material (stripes) or embroidered type around $55 - V-neck for ladies around the same pricing scheme - a few usual places to pick them up used to be a few mama shops in Geylang (demolished block), Joo Chiat Complex, Peninsula, then in Queensway and a couple in People's Park - the boutique in Chinatown Point just closed earlier this year - one of my fave brands - the problem used to be with the lighter colors - after washing would fade over time (plus hanging on the gala outside the HDB flat under the sun did not help) - you would inevitable end up with a few line creasings around the waist area if you wore a belt with a buckle.....I still buy a couple a year as they have been the most comfortable polo shirts for me....not sure if many people knew this about Montagut but you could tell the size from the stitching around the shoulder blade area - two dots means size 2, 3 dots meant size 3 and so on......happy days....

I also remember checking out the Montagut concession in Printemps in Paris years ago and being rather bemused that the prices were much higher than Singapore in Euros - i.e. now plain polos are around $85 - $90 locally, in Paris they were about 90euros...
