Strange behavior of ants in condo kitchen area

General

Hello, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I have never experienced this anywhere except Singapore so far so I thought i would try here.

We live in a condo, fifth floor. Sometimes we have ants that seem to come in through the kitchen window. Not a huge deal, place a trap and it clears them out in a few days.

Recently, they started showing up in larger numbers, but all they do is sit motionless near the kitchen sink. Especially the base of the faucet, in a group maybe 10-15 together. They don't seek food or water even though the sink is right there and sometimes has food scraps in the bowls or sink catcher. They only move when I disturb them. I put out gel bait a few days ago and they were interested for a while, but now they just ignore it and have returned to just standing still.

I've never seen ants behave this way before. Does anyone have any insight? I'd like to clear them out of course but they don't seem receptive to the bait anymore. Any advice appreciated, thanks in advance

Read somewhere (but cant find the source, so literally #trustmebro for now) that that happens when the queen ant dies, and the ants sorta lost command, but still go about doing business-as-usual stuff, until got new queen ant take over.

A bit like if you NSF then everybody 3SG and above go outfield uncontactable for 1 week, then everybody just balonglong canteen break, Body Maintenance Time, loboking, nua only, everything do for show nia but on paper is put got do.
