Money Not Enough 3

So, are you saying Singapore has people that don't have any work, are homeless and begging on the streets?

I didn't say anything. All I did was post a video and let it do the talking.

And, you posted the video because you agree with whats on the video? Or for its artistic interpretation of the situation in Singapore?

The video shows images of the poor, the homeless and the destitute. There's nothing to agree or disagree with. The scenes are either real or they're staged. I'm 100% sure the images are genuine because I've seen similar scenes myself.

In Singapore? Or are you referring to other countries?

I'm referring to Singapore. It's not a new phenomenon. I witnessed old ladies collecting cardboard way back in the 80s and I remember thinking to myself... "what sort of family would neglect their elderly in such a manner.....".

The correct comment to make is: "what sort of government would neglect their senior citizens in such a manner"

Watch out for those women in Tudungs and a child who come up to beg. They are Indonesians. Most probably professional beggars from Riau. They usually go up to ang mors because ang mors can't tell the diff between local Malays and Indons.

I've also encountered more and more foreigners asking cigarettes from me (they don't speak English, but gesture to me). I'll just tell them to sod off.

Let me tell you there is a difference between poor Singaporeans and FT beggars. Singaporeans generally don't beg because we are too proud. Even old people with crooked backs sell tissue, mop toilets, collect cans and cardboards to survive.

Looking after the old is a family responsibility not a government responsibility.

Our parents took care of us when we were young. When our parents grow old, it is our turn to look after them. That's how civilized communities function.

Your attempt to pass the buck to the government is an appalling attitude and reflects on your upbringing. I can understand this sort of attitude from white western trash but not from someone brought up in an Asian society where we are supposed to honor and respect the elderly and repay them for the sacrifices they made in raising us.

Truly excellent piece of work. Music is haunting and very sad. The movie clips done in the retro 1960s format to send the subtle msg that while the elite get richer, the rest of Singapore is sliding back to the poverty of the 1960s.

Does it? Apologize if it looks that way.

It most certainly is. What you're trying to do is to make me commit to one side of the fence at the expense of the other but in reality, nothing is black and white.

Do I agree with everything LKY does and says? Of course I don't. Do I support the PAP?... in many policies the answer is "yes" and in many other policies the answer is "no".

The "you're either for us or against us" stance is fine in cowboy town but it has no place in a complex modern society.

Indeed, sorry about that. I was wondering why you had the video up and was just curious as to where you stand in regards to the video. You do have a persona for being pretty pro-PAP for a while.

I'm pro PAP when it comes to welfare. I am anti PAP in many other areas.

At the risk of being perceived to be interrogating you. ;) In what areas do you see the PAP for not performing up to scratch? Do you think the long term viability of Singapore as an island are threatened by these then?

Policy wise, they are sound. It's easy to criticise but Singapore has very few options when it comes to growing its economy and I doubt if any other political party would come up with anything better.

Where they fail is the way they play the game. They cheat, they lie, they cover up, they manipulate and they operate anything but a meritocracy when it comes to selecting their management team.

Yes, that seems to echos many similar views you see here. Do you also see the danger that selecting their own management team through this way can cause potential disasters for the future of the country? Some of which could eventually filter down to all levels of society? Perhaps that was the point of the video then?

There is always a potential for disastrous mistakes to be made regardless of who runs the country. The PAP is hardly immune.

Just look at Ireland, once the poster boy for a low tax, open economy. It's now a basket case in need of a bail out.

I posted the video to generate discussion. There are no ulterior motives.
