....Former member of parliament for Hougang and Workers' Party member Yaw Shin Leong says he will not be appealing his expulsion from the party, therefore renouncing his seat in parliament.

Speaker of Parliament Michael Palmer announced in a press statement issued Wednesday that Yaw had responded on Monday to a letter sent to him by the Clerk of Parliament last week, which sought confirmation that Yaw would be vacating his MP seat and would not be appealing his dismissal.

He had until Friday, 24 Februrary, to respond to the letter sent to him.

"In view of the above, and pursuant to Article 46(2)(b) of the Constitution, the seat for the Member of Hougang is vacant from the date of his expulsion from the political party for which he stood in the 2011 General Election, that is, 14 February 2012," said Palmer in the statement.

He added that he will be making a formal announcement to the House when Parliament next convenes on 28 February.

The Workers' Party announced last Wednesday that it had expelled Yaw on 14 February, and its secretary-general Low Thia Khiang had informed Parliament officially of his dismissal two days later.|

That's a real possibility but the picture isn't clear yet. PAP can ask PAP supporters to go and see CCC Advisor and WP supporters to go WP sit-in MPS, as if very gentlemanly. Then it'd be a competition between PAP CCC Advisor and WP sit-in MPs. On a more sober and sombre note, the longer it drags, the more advantageous it'll be to PAP since it has far more resources for long drawn competition. WP is already down one MP resources to draw on.

Luckily he didn't contest against the expulsion. That's the least he could do and not destroying the one whole decade of hard work put in by everybody.

Even if he appeals and successfully retains his MP seat, how is he going to face the people in his constituency and pretend that nothing has happened? You need a skin with the thickness of an elephant hide to do that. If he still has some conscience and remorse, the very least he should do is to step down, apologise and fade off from political scene, and let WP move forward.

WP hardwork can be destroyed in many ways, not just Yaw's story. If your silly ex-colleague Hazel Pao wanted to contest in Hougang, she could be seen as another damaging factor. Tan Jee Say is another, not sure about RP or other independent monkey. If any monkey other than WP think they can easily win at least 40% votes in Hougang, I CHOP OFF MY FOOT because PAP can't even reach that level in the last watershed!
