Mr Leong Mun Wai stepped down as Progress Singapore Party secretary-general on Feb 20, 2024, the party said.

SINGAPORE — Progress Singapore Party (PSP) chief Leong Mun Wai has stepped down as the party's secretary-general to “take responsibility” for the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (Pofma) correction direction he received last week, PSP announced on Friday (Feb 23).

He will remain a central executive committee (CEC) member, the party said.

“PSP’s CEC accepted Mr Leong’s decision and is proud that he has demonstrated accountability through his actions, not just words,” the party said in an announcement on its Facebook page on Friday evening.

Mr Leong made the decision on Tuesday, and Ms Hazel Poa was elected and assumed the secretary-general position on the same day, PSP added.

“The Progress Singapore Party will continue working to build a more progressive, compassionate and inclusive Singapore.”

Mr Leong, a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament, was issued a Pofma correction direction on Feb 15 for alleging on social media that a married couple with mobility problems did not get enough financial aid from the Government.

The Ministry of Social and Family Development debunked these claims, listing the various ways that the couple had been receiving support.

Mr Leong later put up a correction notice on his social media accounts.

Nothing surprising, many things will always happen to Opposition party members just before the next GE:

1) Get excited and salivating from resident's complains, then fall into the trap of making these unsubstantiated claims in their social media posts without doing due diligence and tio POFMA.

2) Get themselves into trouble with the law after tio fixed by PAP.

3) Bicker among themselves and self-pwn each other with various quarrels, scandals e.g. members sexpose unhappiness about their party leadership in public and resign to join another party etc. which essentially creates a bad impression that opposition parties are very disunited, messy and unreliable.

4) Recruit controversial or mediocre members into their party, then no choice have to run as suicide squad against the stronger PAP GRCs.

5) Saddest part is, all the real talented opposition members who initially wanted to join the opposition parties, will tend to switch camps to join the PAP instead, lured by the lucrative rewards under the pretense of trying to change the party from within, LOL.

So it's little wonder why citizens will always vote PAP into power GE after GE.

When will these Kum Gong Oppies ever learn?
