The level of hate Singaporeans have for Lee Kuan Yew is simply amazing. People are wishing LKY died, or complaining he was an inferior leader. Sure LKY may have done some really ugly and traitorous things like destroying other Chinese dialects and cultures and enforcing everyone to speak Mandarin only. But let's not forget that it was under his rule that Singapore turned into an "First World" Asian Tiger, sure youmay argue back he was not entirely responsible for changing Singapore, or he was only one of the pieces that changed Singapore, but he was still the core that made the changes happened. I'm not denying the fact that many other Singaporean figures contributed significantly, however the contribution by Lee Kuan Yew should not be denied.

The Old Man has both admirable and loathsome qualities. This is normal, since it makes him human. The problem with hardcore PAP supporters is that they see nothing loathsome in him, and the problem with hardcore anti-PAP people is that he is all loathsome.

As I see it, the worst thing for so many years he has served as a major distraction, a reminder of the good times and lulling a lot of people into a sense of complacency that as long as he is around everything will be all right.

You are barking at the wrong tree. LKY could done better if he did not intimidates, harasses, jailed and sued opposition parties. A leader is to respect the wish of the people and the latter respected him for his leadership. Dictatorship, neopotism, self paying obscened high salaries politicans are not worht their salt.
