hk cyclothon’s mistake is to allow pros and amateurs to compete on the same route at the same time. all it takes is one moronic tiong tdf wannabe to spoil the event.

When I was doing competitive mass start cycling events the first thing the stronger cyclists did was to go almost full gas from the gun. This insane pace would carry on for about 10 to 15 minutes till all the weaker and inexperienced riders had been dropped. What remained was a far safer peloton at the head of affairs. It was an honor to be included in this group.

These cyclists are recreational cyclists who should have stayed home or cycle in the designated cycling zones during their off days instead of clogging up the roads during peak hours.

With them cycling does not mean that they would have been opted to not driving a car.

Cyclists don't clog up the roads it's other cars, buses and trucks that clog up the roads.

See for yourself if you don't believe me..... clogged streets and not a cyclist in sight.

Cyclists don't cause jams they help clear jams whenever a driver decides to use a bicycle instead. If all drivers opted to use bicycles there would be no necessity for COEs and ERP in the first place.
Yeah....I agreed whatever boss say

victims my ass... you can see in the other video that they were already having problems with another vehicle when they turned from Nicol Highway into Middle Road. It was the same cyclist with the light coloured vest that was the aggressor, he was in front of the group, stopped in the middle of the road, allowing 2 of the other cyclists to ride past him until the car caught up and started his "tirade" against the car. This the same one that "fell" so easily when the taxi driver walked over to the left to take a picture of his side mirror. He wasn't even the one that almost hit the taxi when the taxi "jammed brake". This is the guy with the rage. probably did not get his ONS the previous night at the clubs

It's cyclists like him who will ensure that motorists behave themselves when vulnerable road users are in the vicinity. The end result is safer streets for everyone.

Yes, the reports had been very biased. I wonder why.

The cyclists were shaming the taxi driver too, and concealed their identities as much as possible.

Taxi drivers cause a disproportionate number of accidents and deserve to be shamed at every opportunity. Cyclists are angels in comparison.

SINGAPORE — The police are investigating after a video showing a heated confrontation between a group of road cyclists and a ComfortDelGro taxi driver on Middle Road went viral on Saturday (Oct 21).

In response to TODAY's queries, the police said they were alerted to a call for assistance at the junction of Victoria Street and Middle Road at about 8.30am on Saturday.

In the footage uploaded to the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, five cyclists can be seen riding on the centre and left lanes of the three-lane road behind the blue taxi.

The taxi then abruptly stops before a traffic light, about one car's length away from the vehicle in front of it.

This sudden move causes a near-collision between one of the cyclists and the rear of the taxi. Following this, the group is seen surrounding the taxi to confront the driver.

In a separate video apparently filmed by one of the cyclists, the two parties could be heard hurling vulgarities at each other throughout the argument.

One cyclist is heard asking the taxi driver why he had abruptly braked, saying: "You see you jam brake, the car in front (of his taxi) is so far away."

The taxi driver is then heard shouting vulgarities at the group, saying "you don't need to ask me why I jam brake" before pushing his way past the front of his vehicle.

Another cyclist clad in grey is then seen falling to the ground with his bicycle.

The police said that a 41-year-old man sustained minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital.

According to the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) on-road rules for cyclists, cyclists must always ride as close as possible to the far left edge of roads so that traffic may overtake them safely.

In January 2022, the LTA also introduced a new rule mandating that when cycling in groups, cyclists must keep to a maximum length of five bicycles. This means a maximum of five cyclists if riding in single file, or 10 cyclists if riding two abreast.

Investigations are ongoing.

TODAY has reached out to ComfortDelGro for comment on the incident.

5. The best way to engage cyclists on the road is simply avoid them. The road is wide enough. I don't understand why motorists would want to purposely engage and antagonise them. In an altercation between motorists and cyclists the former will invariably lose. This is simply because in the eyes of the law cyclists are seen as the more vulnerable party and deserves the protection of the law.
It's envy. Drivers are stressed trying to make enough to pay and operate the car and just list it when they see free loading cyclist enjoying same benefit.

The main point of consideration is that the taxi drivers and most other drivers use these roads to earn a living whereas these Tour De France wannabes use these for recreational purposes whilst displaying their Lycra fashion sense.

1. Motorists have been quoting COE and road tax to death. This merely exposes their ignorance and stupidity. COE is to control car population and roads are built with general income tax. Get your facts right.

2. Cyclists are not entitled. It's the other way round. Because motorists pay COE and road tax, cyclists should get off the road and make way for them. This is the prevailing attitude.

3. In spite of the multiple choruses to ban or regulate cyclists on the road, the government will do nothing. Regulating cycling runs counter to their policy of car lite society and healthy lifestyle. So this will not happen. Pelotons are now back to 20-30 strength and the police is making no effort to enforce the max 10 rule.

4. Similarly a politician will be happy to be photographed cycling (promoting healthier active lifestyle) but will never be photographed driving a car. Learn the narrative and know which side the lawmakers are on.

6. This taxi driver may be right to jam brake, but now he has a whole lot of legal problems to deal with. Anyone who can afford a $20k bike has legal muscles. If he had just kept his ego in check and went on his merry way, none of this would have happened.
no. 5. it wasn’t like the taxi was intentionally engaging them. taxi was ahead of them yet they die die must tailgate the taxi - tailgating a vehicle is a no no in road cycling. vehicles can jam their brakes anytime due to animals dashing across road or the vehicle in front suddenly braking. worst to tailgate are heavy trucks and buses as drivers can see the bottom rear middle if there’s no rear cam. they could have easily avoided the cab by riding left side of road.

In the end did the taxi driver get injured?
